Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluates the practice patterns of sentinel-node biopsy (SNB) for breast cancer in British Columbia, five years after its introduction, focusing on surgeons, pathologists, and nuclear medicine physicians.
  • Surveys revealed that by 2001, only 19% of breast cancer surgeons in the region were performing SNB, with about half of them involved in validation studies and many lacking data management support.
  • Significant inconsistencies were found regarding the definitions, indications, and techniques used for SNB among practitioners, alongside variations in lymphatic mapping protocols across nuclear medicine departments.
