CAR Practice Guideline on Bone Mineral Densitometry Reporting: 2024 Update.

This practice guideline serves as an update to the Canadian Association of Radiologists' 2013 Technical Standards for Bone Mineral Densitometry Reporting. It aims to align bone mineral density testing and reporting practices in Canada with current clinical best practices, including guidelines from Osteoporosis Canada and the International Society for Clinical Densitometry. Key updates include the endorsement of both FRAX and CAROC tools for evaluating fracture risk, guidance for analyzing male patients and transgender patients, and provision of clinical management guidance of relevance to BMD reporting harmonized with that of Osteoporosis Canada.

Characterization of 3-Dimensional PET Systems for Accurate Quantification of Myocardial Blood Flow.

Unlabelled: Three-dimensional (3D) mode imaging is the current standard for PET/CT systems. Dynamic imaging for quantification of myocardial blood flow with short-lived tracers, such as Rb-chloride, requires accuracy to be maintained over a wide range of isotope activities and scanner counting rates. We proposed new performance standard measurements to characterize the dynamic range of PET systems for accurate quantitative imaging.

Schistosomiasis in pregnant travelers: a case series.

Background: Travel-related acquisition of schistosomiasis in Africa is well established. Data concerning Schistosoma infection in pregnant travelers are lacking and treatment derives from studies in endemic regions.

Methods: This study was a retrospective case-series of pregnant patients who were infected with Schistosoma species.

Clinical interpretation standards and quality assurance for the multicenter PET/CT trial rubidium-ARMI.

Unlabelled: Rubidium-ARMI ((82)Rb as an Alternative Radiopharmaceutical for Myocardial Imaging) is a multicenter trial to evaluate the accuracy, outcomes, and cost-effectiveness of low-dose (82)Rb perfusion imaging using 3-dimensional (3D) PET/CT technology. Standardized imaging protocols are essential to ensure consistent interpretation.

Methods: Cardiac phantom qualifying scans were obtained at 7 recruiting centers.

Suppression of myocardial 18F-FDG uptake with a preparatory "Atkins-style" low-carbohydrate diet.

Objectives: Physiological myocardial uptake of 18F-FDG during positron emission tomography can mask adjacent abnormal uptake in mediastinal malignancy and inflammatory cardiac diseases. Myocardial uptake is unpredictable and variable. This study evaluates the impact of a low-carbohydrate diet in reducing myocardial FDG uptake.

A mobile Meckel!

A technetium-99m pertechnetate Meckel scan is the standard diagnostic test to diagnose Meckel diverticulum. Although a negative scan does not exclude Meckel diverticulum, it should be kept in mind that the diagnosis can be missed on the basis of a single negative scan. Another important point is the typical position of this anatomical abnormality in the scan.

Prevalence of occult gastrointestinal bleeding in celiac disease.

Background & Aims: By using colorimetric tests, reports have indicated that occult gastrointestinal bleeding is common in celiac disease. These results suggest that bleeding is a significant contributor to iron deficiency in this disorder and imply a significant inflammatory hemorrhagic component. Both these concepts are contrary to previous understanding of pathology of celiac disease.
