Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of alternating magnetic fields (AMF) combined with antibiotics in reducing Staphylococcus aureus biofilm on metal implants in a large animal model, compared to antibiotics alone.

Methods: Metal plates were inoculated with a clinical MRSA strain and then implanted into thirty-three ewes divided into three groups: positive control, linezolid only, and a combination of linezolid and AMF. Animals had either titanium or cobalt-chrome plates and were sacrificed at 5 or 21 days post-implantation.

Objective: Little is known about age-related variations in sites and grade of sleep-dependent airway obstruction in children with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) or obstructive sleep-disordered breathing (oSDB). The objective was to compare sites and grade of obstruction on drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) across different age groups of surgically naïve children with OSA or oSDB.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed for surgically naïve children aged 0-18 years with OSA/oSDB who underwent DISE from July 2021 to August 2023.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) on the quality-of-life (QoL) of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS).

Methods: Retrospective cohort study of all adult patients with CRS presenting to our rhinology clinic between August 2020 and February 2023 was performed. OSA was established based on positive polysomnography.

Objectives: To evaluate the impact of allergic rhinitis (AR) on the quality of life (QoL) in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS).

Methods: Retrospective cross-sectional study of adult patients with CRS presenting to our clinic between August 2020 and February 2023 was performed. AR was diagnosed based on a positive skin or blood allergy test.

Objectives: Prior studies evaluating the role of sinonasal anatomic variants with recurrent acute rhinosinusitis (RARS) are limited by inconsistent results. The goal of this study is to evaluate the association between sinonasal anatomic variants and RARS.

Methods: A 1:2 retrospective case-control study was conducted using patients presenting to the rhinology clinic from August 2020 to January 2023.

Most animal models of infection utilize planktonic bacteria as initial inocula. However, this may not accurately mimic scenarios where bacteria in the biofilm phenotype contaminate a site at the point of injury. We developed a modified CDC biofilm reactor in which biofilms can be grown on the surface of simulated fracture fixation plates.

The kinetics and equilibrium of the hydride transfer reaction between lumiflavin and a number of substituted quinones was studied using density functional theory. The impact of electron withdrawing/donating substituents on the redox potentials of quinones was studied. In addition, the role of these substituents on the kinetics of the hydride transfer reaction with lumiflavin was investigated in detail under the transition state (TS) theory assumption.
