Herbicide application to plants heterozygous for herbicide resistance results in distorted segregation favoring resistant allele transmission resulting in a conditional gene drive. Brassica napus plants heterozygous for an allele conferring sulfonylurea resistance at a single locus exhibit normal Mendelian inheritance. However, following application of the herbicide, highly distorted segregation of herbicide resistance occurs among progeny.

Crohn's disease (CD) is a complex chronic inflammatory disorder with both gastrointestinal and extra-intestinal manifestations associated immune dysregulation. Analyzing 202,359 cells from 170 specimens across 83 patients, we identify a distinct epithelial cell type in both terminal ileum and ascending colon (hereon as 'LND') with high expression of LCN2, NOS2, and DUOX2 and genes related to antimicrobial response and immunoregulation. LND cells, confirmed by in-situ RNA and protein imaging, are rare in non-IBD controls but expand in active CD, and actively interact with immune cells and specifically express IBD/CD susceptibility genes, suggesting a possible function in CD immunopathogenesis.

β-glucans found in cereal grains have been previously demonstrated to improve blood glucose control; however, current understanding points to their high viscosity as the primary mechanism of action. In this work, we present a novel, highly soluble, low-viscosity β-glucan fiber (HS-BG fiber) and a preclinical dataset that demonstrates its impact on two mechanisms related to the prevention of hyperglycemia. Our results show that HS-BG inhibits the activity of two key proteins involved in glucose metabolism, the α-glucosidase enzyme and the SGLT1 transporter, thereby having the potential to slow starch digestion and subsequent glucose uptake.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of mortality worldwide and represent a pressing clinical need. Vascular occlusions are the predominant cause of CVD and necessitate surgical interventions such as bypass graft surgery to replace the damaged or obstructed blood vessel with a synthetic conduit. Synthetic modification of oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs) via conjugation to nucleic acid binding small molecules can improve hybridization and pharmacokinetic properties. In the present study, five Hoechst 33258 derived benzimidazoles were conjugated to T rich ODNs and their hybridization effectiveness was tested. Thermal denaturation studies revealed significant stabilization of complementary duplexes by ODN-benzimidazole conjugates, with the extent of stabilization being highly dependent on the length of the linker between DNA and benzimidazole.

Current literature suggesting that damage to the right parietal lobe and attention networks may cause hemispatial neglect is conflicting and can be improved by investigating a connectomic model of the "neglect system" and the anatomical specificity of regions involved in it.

Background: This report presents a case of medically refractory dystonia in a pediatric patient successfully treated with bilateral subthalamic nucleus (STN) deep brain stimulation (DBS) while under general anesthesia by using microelectrode recordings (MERs) with intraoperative computed tomography (CT).
