Differential transfer of C and E apolipoproteins from very-low-density lipoprotein to lysophosphatidylcholine-phosphatidylcholine micelles.

Rat plasma VLDL was incubated with lysoPC/PC micelles consisting of 45-90 mol% lysoPC at micelle/VLDL phospholipid ratios of 0.33-6. Following incubation, the VLDL and micellar particles were reisolated by ultracentrifugation and the lipid and apolipoprotein composition determined by high-temperature gas chromatography and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, respectively.

Carcinoma of the endometrium. V. An analysis of prognosticators in patients with favorable subtypes and Stage I disease.

A review of the pathologic material from patients in our population based uterine cancer registry in Louisville, Kentucky identified three subtypes of endometrial carcinoma with a favorable prognosis: adenoacanthoma, adenocarcinoma with no specific features, and secretory carcinoma. Three subtypes with a much less favorable prognosis were papillary carcinoma, mixed adenosquamous carcinoma, and clear cell carcinoma. The other important determinants of treatment results were: stage of disease, age, race, nuclear grade, and depth of myometrial invasion.

Influence of divalent cations on rat apolipoprotein transfer to synthetic lipoproteinlike lipid emulsions in vitro.

Synthetic lipid emulsions of chylomicron (TG1) and low density lipoprotein (TG2) diameter, consisting of triacylglycerol and phosphatidylcholine, were incubated with rat serum, whole blood, plasma, and postheparin plasma in the presence or absence of divalent cations. The lipid and apoprotein composition of the reisolated Sf greater than 400 particles was examined by high temperature gas chromatography and sodium dodecyl sulfate - glycerol polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, respectively. It was found that apoproteins C, E, H, and A-I were associated with TG1 after incubation with whole blood + EDTA, EDTA-plasma, or EDTA-postheparin plasma.

Carcinoma of the endometrium. IV. Mixed adenosquamous carcinoma. A clinical-pathological study of 68 cases with long-term follow-up.

In a histologic review of 989 cases of invasive endometrial carcinomas there were 68 mixed adenosquamous carcinomas. Sixty were followed for at least five years, or until death. The other eight were diagnosed in 1976 and were ineligible for five-year status evaluation.

Carcinoma of the endometrium. II. Papillary adenocarcinoma: a clinical pathological study, 46 cases.

Forty-six patients with papillary carcinoma of the endometrium were studied. Forty-five were followed for at least five years or until death, and 41 were followed for 10 years. The remaining patient was alive at four years.

Glassy cell carcinoma of the endometrium.

A variant of mixed adenosquamous carcinoma of the endometrium was encountered in 5 of 68 patients (7.4 per cent) with mixed adenosquamous carcinomas of the endometrium. A sixty patient had an isolated area of glassy cell carcinoma in an otherwise typical adenosquamous carcinoma.

Carcinoma of the endometrium. III. Analysis of 865 cases of adenocarcinoma and adenoacanthoma.

Eight hundred sixty-five patients with confirmed adenocarcinoma of the endometrium were studied. Eight hundred eleven were followed up for at least 5 years or until death, and 537 were followed up for 10 years. The survival rate was 77.

Carcinoma of the endometrium: I. A clinicopathologic study of clear-cell carcinoma and secretory carcinoma.

In a pathologic review of 1224 cases of endometrial carcinoma, 1023 were confirmed cases of endometrial carcinoma. Fifty-six (5.5%) were clear-cell adenocarcinoma (CCE).

Effect of core composition and particle size of lipid emulsions on apolipoprotein transfer of plasma lipoproteins in vivo.

Lipid emulsions corresponding in size and surface composition to chylomicron and low density lipoprotein but differing in lipid core composition were injected into rats a tail vein cannula and 10 min later blood was withdrawn via the abdominal aorta. Plasma lipoproteins were isolated by ultracentrifugation and the lipid and apolipoprotein composition was determined by gas-liquid chromatography and gel electrophoresis, respectively. It was found that apolipoprotein C peptides were transferred to Sf greater than 400 particles of large diameter regardless of whether their cores contained cholesteryl esters or triacylglycerols, but not to Sf greater than 400 particles of small diameter.

Intraaortic balloon counterpulsation in a community hospital.

Our experience with intraaortic balloon counterpulsation in 41 patients documents the feasibility of a coordinated aggressive therapeutic approach in patients with potentially fatal complications of coronary artery disease. The use of intraaortic balloon pump in a non-cardiac surgical center has allowed hemodynamic support in the critically ill, safety in angiography, appropriate selection of patients for surgery, and safe transportation to a cardiac surgery center when indicated.

Physicians' patient referrals to a nurse practitioner in a primary care medical clinic.

A survey of interns and residents in a Primary Care Medical Care Medical Clinic disclosed that these physicians have a very favorable impression of nurse practitioners' potential contributions to health care delivery, yet refer patients to the nurse practitioner to a much lesser degree than would have been expected on the basis of their attitudes.

Plasma lipoprotein profile and composition in atherosclerosis-susceptible White Carneau and atherosclerosis-resistant Show Racer pigeons were investigated while consuming a regular pigeon chow diet free of cholesterol. Plasma was studied by analytical and preparative ultracentrifugation and paper electrophoresis. Lipid composition of each lipoprotein was determined by combined TLC-GLC techniques.
