Article Synopsis
- The study isolated two isoforms of antilipopolysaccharide factor (Sp-ALF1 and Sp-ALF2) from the mud crab, Scylla paramamosain, characterized their cDNA sequences, and discovered their high similarity with ALFs from other crustaceans.
- Tissue distribution showed that both proteins are primarily expressed in hemocytes but also detected in various developmental stages, with low presence in the megalopa stage.
- Both recombinant and synthetic Sp-ALFs displayed strong antimicrobial and antiviral activities, particularly effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, but did not disrupt the membrane integrity of Escherichia coli.
