Although association between hearing impairment and dementia has been widely documented by epidemiological studies, the role of auditory sensory deprivation in cognitive decline remains to be fully understood. To address this issue we investigated the impact of hearing loss on the onset and time-course of cognitive decline in an animal model of Alzheimer's disease (AD), that is the 3×Tg-AD mice and the underlying mechanisms. We found that hearing loss induced by noise exposure in the 3×Tg-AD mice before the phenotype is manifested caused persistent synaptic and morphological alterations in the auditory cortex.

However, its poor light-emissive features currently make it unsuitable for solid-state lighting. Lanthanide doping is an established strategy to implement luminescence in poorly emissive materials, with the additional advantage of fine-tuning the emission wavelength.

By measuring markers of synaptic activity at recent and remote time points from contextual fear conditioning (CFC), we could show that pre-synaptic changes are selectively detected 1 day post-training when the memory is anchored to the training context. Differently, pre- and post-synaptic changes are detected 14 days post-training when the memory generalizes to other contexts.

Despite surgical excision and palliative therapy (prednisolone and cimetidine), the dog was euthanatized due to worsening of clinical signs. At necropsy, multiple white, solid, nodular, infiltrative masses were observed in the stomach, duodenum, spleen, liver, and lungs in association with generalized lymph node enlargement.

A series of 3-arylprop-2-enthionoester derivatives was synthesized. These compounds were evaluated for their antiulcer activity. Derivatives [(H), (V), (VIII)] showed a noteworthy activity.

This experimental model was set to evaluate the influence that high prolactin levels may have on bone mineralization when an intervention of estrogens can reasonably be excluded. Bone density was measured by single photon absorptiometry at the femur level.

Moreover, we evaluated the activity of this analogue on gastric ulcer formation by restraint stress. We found that 5 IU/kg Asu(1,7) eel-calcitonin decreased gastric secretion and inhibited the development of stress-induced ulcers in Brattleboro rats.
