One element to address health disparities and historical injustices of systemically excluded groups is to examine selection processes. Implicit association testing for selection committees is suggested as one intervention to address bias in selection and is used for Undergraduate Medical Education at the University of Manitoba. Our study demonstrated that implicit bias training for PDs in isolation has minimal impact on addressing bias within resident selection.

Aligning electron density maps from Cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM) is a first key step for studying multiple conformations of a biomolecule. As this step remains costly and challenging, with standard alignment tools being potentially stuck in local minima, we propose here a new procedure, called AlignOT, which relies on the use of computational optimal transport (OT) to align EM maps in 3D space. By embedding a fast estimation of OT maps within a stochastic gradient descent algorithm, our method searches for a rotation that minimizes the Wasserstein distance between two maps, represented as point clouds.

Objective:  This study aimed to compare the accuracy of sternal recumbency caudocranially obtained radiographs of canine femora to computed tomographic (CT) frontal plane reconstructions of the same femora for assessing anatomic distal lateral femoral angles (aLDFA).

Study Design:  Multicentre, retrospective study utilizing 81 matched radiographic and CT studies of clinical patients undergoing assessment for various issues were reviewed. Anatomic lateral distal femoral angles were measured, and accuracy assessed with descriptive statistics and Bland-Altman plot analysis, with CT considered the reference standard.

Greater embryo size in a large and carefully phenotyped mapping population was genetically associated with a greater number of longer seminal roots to increase grain yield in droughted field environments. Breeding modification of root architecture is challenging in field environments owing to genetic and phenotypic complexity, and poor repeatability with root sampling. Seeds from a large mapping population varying in embryo size were harvested from a common glasshouse and standardised to a common size before assessing in rolled germination paper at 12 and 20 °C for seedling growth.

Sensing of neighbours via the Red to Far-Red light ratio (R:FR) may exert a cap to yield potential in wheat. The effects of an increased R:FR inside the canopy were studied in dense wheat mini canopies grown in controlled environments by lowering FR. To distinguish between effects exerted by light sensing and assimilate supply, the treatments were complemented with elevated CO , applied between different developmental timepoints to specifically impact tillering, spike growth, floret fertility and grain filling, in different combinations.

Low-lodging high-yielding wheat germplasm and SNP-tagged novel alleles for lodging were identified in a process that involved selecting donors through functional phenotyping for underlying traits with a designed phenotypic screen, and a crossing strategy involving multiple-donor × elite populations. Lodging is a barrier to achieving high yield in wheat. As part of a study investigating the potential to breed low-lodging high-yielding wheat, populations were developed crossing four low-lodging high-yielding donors selected based on lodging related traits, with three cultivars.
