We conducted a detailed examination of the anterior cranial region of Cory's Shearwater (, employing cutting-edge imaging techniques and computed tomography (CT). The fusion of CT images with anatomical cross-sectional data played a pivotal role in providing a thorough depiction of the components constituting the anterior cranial region of this species. The explication of these structures holds significant potential as an essential procedure for the prognosis and management of diverse pathologies impacting the nasal cavity of Cory's Shearwater.

In view of the increasing occurrence of anthelmintic-resistant strains of gastrointestinal nematodes in ruminants, various alternative control strategies have been investigated, such as those based on the induction of protective immune responses by immunisation with parasite antigens. In this study, the protective activity of somatic antigens from adult worms of purified by affinity chromatography on thiol-sepharose was analysed in goats. After challenge, the enriched products induced a slight reduction in the cumulative faecal egg counts (21%) and in the number of worms (23.

This research aimed to study the rostral part of the head of the six-banded armadillo, applying advanced imaging techniques such as CT. Furthermore, by combining the images obtained through this technique with anatomical cross-sections, an adequate description of the structures that constitute the rostral part of the head of this species is presented. This anatomical information could provide a valuable diagnostic tool for the clinical evaluation of different disorders in the six-banded armadillo's nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses.

Birds play a crucial role in ecosystems, engaging in key functions such as pollination, pest control, and seed dispersal. The anatomical understanding of these species is essential to addressing emerging challenges, including climate change and habitat loss, which directly impact their survival. Detailed knowledge of avian anatomy is fundamental for research across various disciplines, ranging from ornithology to veterinary medicine.

Goat coccidiosis compromises animal welfare, reduces productivity and may cause mortality and delayed growth rates in goat kids around the weaning period worldwide. This field study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of metaphylactic treatments with two doses of toltrazuril (20 or 40 mg/kg body weight - BW, p. o.

The respect of the teacher for the student is essential for effective teaching from the perspective of the students, even in comparison to the knowledge and communication capacity of the teacher. Consequently, the optimal development of this characteristic fosters a more effective and efficient student-teacher relationship. We initiated this research following a conversation with a group of university students, who expressed their discontent regarding the lack of respect shown towards them by some teachers.

To contribute of the knowledge of the immune mechanisms underlying the response to the immunization of goats with thiol-binding proteins fractions (PBS-TSBP) from Haemonchus contortus (H. contortus) adult worms, this study analyzed the degree of protection and the immune responses developed against the parasite after vaccination with this antigenic complex during the time-elapsing between challenge with L3 of the parasite and the development of adult worms, evidenced by the appearance of first faecal eggs (prepatent period or prepatency). Goat kids immunized with PBS-TBSP generated an immune response during the prepatency which translates into a reduction in the number of worms, as well as a lower reduction on packed cell volume and plasma protein levels in relation to the non-vaccinated animals.

Background: Due to increased anthelmintic resistance, alternative methods to drugs are necessary to control gastrointestinal nematodes (GINs). Some of the most promising alternatives are based on the immune response of the host, such as the selection of genetically resistant breeds or the use of vaccines against these parasites. Given the limited information available on the immune response against GINs in goats, this study investigated the local immune response of goat kids of an indigenous Canary Islands breed (Majorera breed) experimentally infected with Teladorsagia circumcincta, one of the most pathogenic and prevalent GIN species.

Previous studies have evaluated the action of gentamicin against Malassezia pachydermatis. The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro susceptibility of M. pachydermatis to the aminoglycosides- gentamicin, tobramycin, netilmicin and framycetin.

Background: Two studies have observed that growth media containing gentamicin can inhibit the growth of the yeast organism Malassezia pachydermatis. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of this bactericidal antibiotic for this organism has not been previously determined.

Objective: To evaluate the susceptibility of M.

Article Synopsis
  • Haemonchus contortus is a blood-feeding parasite that causes significant economic losses in sheep.
  • Two sheep breeds on Gran Canaria have different levels of susceptibility to this parasite: the resistant Canaria Hair Breed (CHB) and the susceptible Canaria Sheep (CS).
  • This study finds that mucosal IgA (mIgA) is linked to resistance mechanisms in CHB sheep, negatively affecting the parasite's adult stage, while in the CS breed, mIgA correlates mainly with the larval stage.
