- The study aimed to assess the risk of endometrial cancer (EC) among women with BRCA 1/2 mutations who underwent risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO).
- Data was collected from 857 women from four hospitals in Catalonia, Spain, over a 20-year period, comparing cases of EC against expected cases based on regional cancer registry statistics.
- Results showed a slightly increased risk, with eight cases of EC identified post-RRSO, leading to the conclusion that routine hysterectomy is not necessary for BRCA 1/2 carriers after RRSO, as their risk of EC is similar to general expectations.
