A 58-year-old, otherwise healthy male presented to the Emergency Room due to a 24-hour-long bloody diarrhea and constitutional syndrome. Colonoscopy confirmed the presence of a colonic neoplasia. Background: the training program of the gastroenterology specialty that is mandatory for resident physicians, obliges them to be proficient in diagnostic and therapeutic digestive ultrasound tools.

Methodology: the Asociación Española de Ecografía Digestiva (AEED) performed a survey of the 93 Departments of Gastroenterology with training programs for resident physicians in gastroenterology, in order to assess the exact situation of training in digestive ultrasound in Spain.

Results: only 31 of the 93 (33%) Departments of Gastroenterology were able to provide training in Digestive Ultrasound.

Unlabelled: The aim of this study was to evaluate the utility of endoscopic ultrasonography in the etiological diagnosis of patients initially diagnosed with acute idiopathic pancreatitis and to determine the clinical and laboratory factors related to the results of this technique.
