Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the relationship between alcohol consumption levels and the severity of steatotic liver disease (SLD) across two different populations (Spain and the US).
  • The research defines distinct categories of SLD based on alcohol intake and metabolic factors, showing that higher alcohol consumption correlates with increased prevalence of significant fibrosis and fatty liver disease complications.
  • Findings from both the derivation and validation cohorts confirm that moderate alcohol intake is associated with a higher risk of progression to severe liver issues, reinforcing the importance of understanding alcohol's role in liver health.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on understanding the prevalence, management, and effects of alcohol withdrawal syndrome (AWS) in patients with alcohol-associated hepatitis (AH) across multiple medical centers in Spain and the USA.
  • Of the 432 patients analyzed, 32% experienced AWS, with factors like lower platelet levels and previous AWS history increasing the risk, while prophylaxis reduced it.
  • AWS was linked to higher mortality rates and complications such as infections and the need for intensive care, indicating serious implications for patient health after hospitalization.

Celiac disease (CD) is a chronic autoimmune enteropathy triggered by gluten intake. Celiac hepatitis is the most common hepatic manifestation of CD, it usually responds to a gluten-free diet (GFD) and is sometimes the only manifestation in paucisymptomatic CD. Through this descriptive observational study, we determined the prevalence of liver abnormalities upon diagnosis of CD.

Alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) consists of a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations and pathological features, ranging from asymptomatic patients to decompensated cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Patients with heavy alcohol intake and advanced fibrosis often develop a subacute form of liver failure called alcohol-induced hepatitis (AH). Globally, most patients with ALD are identified at late stages of the disease, limiting therapeutic interventions.

Introduction: thiopurines are used as maintenance therapy in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). There are contradictory results regarding the relationship between adherence to treatment and risk of relapse.

Objectives: to quantify and evaluate the trends in thiopurine prescription rates, and to determine the impact and risk factors of non-adherence.
