Background: One of the main challenges in the maintenance of registries is to keep a high follow-up rate and a reliable strategy to limit dropout is currently lacking. Aim of this study was to utilize machine learning (ML) models to highlight the characteristics of patients who are most likely to drop out, and to evaluate the potential cost effectiveness of the implementation of a follow-up system based on the obtained data.
Methods: All patients recruited in the local spine surgery registry were included and demographic, peri- and postoperative data were collected.
Oxidative stress is a pathological condition that contributes to the onset of various diseases. In this way, studying oxidative stress could lead to significant discoveries in the field of therapeutic and preventive medicine. Lipid peroxidation is the most significant event in the oxidative stress process and the gold standard biomarkers for endogenous oxidative damage to lipids are isoprostanes (IsoPs).

Recent studies demonstrated the dysregulation of the endocannabinoid (eCB) system (ECS) in AD brain. Here, we explored the possible alterations of ECS and the onset of gliosis in the retina of AD-like mice.

The rationale relies on the PC's ability to drive the formation of bimetallic silver/gold nanocolloidal 'probes' with different conformations. Ag/Au bimetallic nanostructures, according to the PCs' amount and class, return characteristic plasmonic and colorimetric tags.

However, conductive inks suffer from low electrochemical and rheological performances limiting their applicability in biosensors. Herein, a fast CO laser approach to activate printed carbon inks towards direct enzymatic bioelectrocatalysis (3 generation) is proposed and exploited to build biosensors for D-fructose analysis in biological fluids.

Methods: This is a retrospective study of data collected prospectively on the local institutional spine surgery registry (2016-2021). All patients, women older than 18 years, with a diagnosis of adult spine deformity who underwent long posterior instrumentation to L5 and had a minimum of 2-years follow-up were included in the study (two groups: with or without DJF).
In this work, a nanostructured conductive film possessing nanozyme features was straightforwardly produced via laser-assembling and integrated into complete nitrocellulose sensors; the cellulosic substrate allows to host live cells, while the nanostructured film nanozyme activity ensures the enzyme-free real-time detection of hydrogen peroxide (HO) released by the sames. In detail, a highly exfoliated reduced graphene oxide 3D film decorated with naked platinum nanocubes was produced using a CO-laser plotter via the simultaneous reduction and patterning of graphene oxide and platinum cations; the nanostructured film was integrated into a nitrocellulose substrate and the complete sensor was manufactured using an affordable semi-automatic printing approach. The linear range for the direct HO determination was 0.

Neuroinflammation is a hallmark of several neurodegenerative disorders that has been extensively studied in recent years. Microglia, the primary immune cells of the central nervous system (CNS), are key players in this physiological process, demonstrating a remarkable adaptability in responding to various stimuli in the eye and the brain. Within the complex network of neuroinflammatory signals, the fatty acid N-ethanolamines, in particular N-arachidonylethanolamine (anandamide, AEA), emerged as crucial regulators of microglial activity under both physiological and pathological states.

The 2D/0D rGO-nCe films, integrated as catalytic sensing layers in paper-based sensors, were employed for on-site monitoring of indoor fogging treatments against Listeria monocytogenes (Lm), a ubiquitous pathogenic bacterium. The rGO-nCe laser-assisted synthesis was optimized to preserve the rGO film morphological and electron-transfer features and simultaneously integrate catalytic nCe.

Objectives: This study aims to comprehensively assess the outcomes of anterior cervical spine surgery in patients who have undergone surgical intervention for radiculopathy or myelopathy, with a specific focus on the surgery's impact on axial neck pain.
Methods: Data from an institutional spine surgery registry were analyzed for patients who underwent anterior cervical spine surgery between January 2016 and March 2022.
Herein, a strategy to stamp laser-produced reduced graphene oxide (rGO) onto flexible polymers using only office-grade tools, namely, roll-to-roll thermal stamping, is proposed, proving for the first time its effectiveness for direct bioelectrocatalysis. This straightforward, scalable, and low-cost approach allows us to overcome the limits of the integration of laser-induced rGO-films in bioanalytical devices. Laser-produced rGO has been thermally stamped (TS) onto different polymeric substrates (PET, PVC, and EVA) using a simple roll-laminator; the obtained TS-rGO films have been compared with the native rGO (untransferred) via morphochemical and electrochemical characterization.

The neurobiology of OCD has not been completely understood and efforts are needed in order to develop new treatments. Herein, for the first time, the potential nanotoxicity of liquid phase exfoliated Group VI TMDs n-sheets (MoS, WS, WSe, and MoSe) was comparatively investigated using zebrafish embryos (Z-EBs) as an in-vivo model. The 2D n-sheets were produced directly in aqueous-medium, the obtained n-sheets were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Raman and visible spectroscopy, and their potential nanotoxicity was investigated by fish embryo test OECD TG 236.

Background And Purpose: The differential diagnosis between spine infection and bone tumors of the spine can be misled by the prevalence of one of the conditions over the other in different areas of the world. A review of the existing literature on suggestive or even pathognomonic imaging aspects of both can be very useful for correctly orientating the diagnosis and deciding the most appropriate area for biopsy.

Patients with Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) < 20/100 at baseline or undergoing surgery on the cervical spine or for idiopathic spinal deformity and trauma patients were excluded.
