Background: Thyroid nodules are relatively common (7% of the population) but are malignant in only 5%-10% of cases. Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) to detect cancer can have > 90% sensitivity but only 50%-65% specificity because of false-positive results, which necessitates surgical controls. We aimed to assess the diagnostic accuracy of immunocytochemistry (ICC) of thyroid FNA to improve its sensitivity and specificity.

The diagnostic criteria of DM have been recently modified (FBG 126 vs 140 mg/dl) and the characteristics of undiagnosed subjects in large populations must be defined. At the same time subjects with impaired FBG need to be studied mainly for their cardiovascular complications.

Here, we report a kindred in which affected members had a heterozygous T to G base substitution at nucleotide 2373 of exon 9alpha of the GR gene, causing substitution of Ile by Met at position 747. This mutation was located close to helix 12, at the C terminus of the ligand-binding domain, which has a pivotal role in the formation of activation function (AF)-2, a subdomain that interacts with p160 coactivators.

The aim of this study was to analyse the role of cardiac autonomic neuropathy (CAN) in the changes of Blood-Pressure (BP) variability among insulin-dependent diabetics and to determine the relationship between BP variability and diabetic complications. Ambulatory BP monitoring was performed during 24 hours on 93 insulin-dependent diabetics and 77 normal subjects of similar age (Group 1). CAN was assessed by the cardiovascular autonomic function tests described by Ewing and the diabetics were divided in two groups: Group 2 including patients without CAN (n = 46) and Group 3 including patients with CAN (n = 47).
