The global energy budget is pivotal to understanding planetary evolution and climate behaviors. Assessing the energy budget of giant planets, particularly those with large seasonal cycles, however, remains a challenge without long-term observations. Evolution models of Saturn cannot explain its estimated Bond albedo and internal heat flux, mainly because previous estimates were based on limited observations.

Plastic pollution is a critical problem that has the potential for long-lasting impact. While all plastics eventually break down to at least some degree, they can remain in different transition states, such as microplastics and nanoplastics, for extended periods of time before reaching complete mineralisation to non-hazardous end products. Each of the transition states represents different types of hazards, so it is critical to understand the factors driving the lifetimes of plastics within these states.

Convex pouching systems have been available for ostomy patients for decades; however, controversy remains over the use of convexity in the postoperative period. A group of 10 nurses and physicians with expertise caring for patients with an ostomy completed a scoping review identifying research-based evidence and gaps in our knowledge of the safety and effectiveness related to the use of a convex pouching system following ostomy surgery. Results of this scoping review demonstrated the need for a structured consensus to define best practices when selecting a pouching system that provides a secure and reliable seal around the stoma, avoids undermining and leakage of effluent from the pouching system, and contributes to optimal health-related quality of life for patients following ostomy surgery.

The influence of photo-oxidation on the quantification of isotactic polypropylene by Pyrolysis Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (Pyr-GC/MS) was assessed. Beads (oval shape, ~5 mm) and fragments (irregular shaped, 250-50 μm and 500-1000 μm) were subjected to relatively harsh simulated accelerated weathering conditions (using a filtered xenon-arc reproducing sunlight's full spectrum) for up to 37 and 80 days, respectively. Samples collected (n = 10 replicates for each treatment) at increasing number of weathering days were analysed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy with Attenuated Total Reflection (FTIR-ATR), scanning electron microscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry in order to assess the extent and the rate of degradation.

Evidence indicates that a common problem for the person with an ostomy is pouch leakage and the development of peristomal skin irritation, which can negatively affect quality of life. While it is clear that the pouching system seal leakage can cause profound problems for the person with an ostomy, little information is available on interventions that focus on leakage. To address this gap, an international group of ostomy nurse experts was convened to develop consensus-based practice guidelines to assist ostomy nurses in determining the best pouching system for the patient.

Despite the importance of insulin and insulin analogs as therapeutic agents for the treatment of type I and II diabetes mellitus (DM), bioanalysis to support regulatory submissions of analogs remains a challenging endeavor. In particular, quantitation of insulin lispro by immunoanalytical methods has largely been limited to assays that display a high degree of cross-reactivity to native insulin because this analog shares extensive primary sequence homology with endogenous insulin and its efficacious circulating concentrations are low. We report herein development of the first noncompetitive electrochemiluminescence-based immunoassay (ECLIA) for specific determination of insulin lispro in serum or plasma.
