Background: Radiotherapy (RT) for breast cancer presents a benefit in terms of reducing local recurrence and deaths resulting from breast cancer but it can lead to secondary effects due to the presence of neighboring cardiac normal tissues within the irradiation field. Breast RT has been shown to be associated with long-term increased risk of heart failure, coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction and finally cardiovascular death more than 10 years after RT. However, there is still a lack of knowledge for early cardiotoxicity induced by breast RT that can appear long before the onset of clinically significant cardiac events.

This article describes an instrument for the measurement of the mirage effect as a tool to determine the molar adsorption per unit surface area Y(1) of condensable solvents in the presence of a non-condensable carrier gas. The present apparatus is a much improved version of previous prototypes developed in our laboratory and elsewhere with a higher surface bake-out temperature (150 °C rather than 40 °C), lower residual vacuum (3 Pa versus 100 Pa), greater sample surface (40 mm diameter instead of 10 mm), more powerful optical pump beam (150 W cf. 50 W), and larger saturated vapour preparation volume (4 L instead of 1 L).

We evaluated preliminary success and patency of stenting for the treatment of radiation-induced arterial diseases. Thirteen stents were placed in 8 patients to treat occlusion (n = 3), aneurysm (n = 1), residual stenosis (n = 2), multiple stenoses (n = 1), and delayed restenosis after previous balloon angioplasty (n = 1). Interventional procedure was successfully performed in 8 patients for their arterial lesions after radiotherapy.

Uncommon adrenal masses include cystic lesions (hydatid cyst, endothelial cyst), solid lesions (hemangioma, ganglioneuroma, angiosarcoma, primary malignant melanoma), and solid fatty lesions (myelolipoma, collision tumor). Most of these lesions do not have specific imaging features. The liquid content of adrenal cysts is clearly demonstrated on ultrasonographic scans, computed tomographic scans, and magnetic resonance images.

Because of the risk and complications related to surgery of the aorta, the development of new, less invasive endovascular techniques has resulted in a certain enthusiasm for these new treatments on the part of physicians and industry. The insertion of aortic stents allows the treatment of almost one half of aneurysm of the infrarenal abdominal aorta and descending aorta. The results appear to demonstrate the medium-term reliability and efficacy of these new techniques with a lower morbidity-mortality rate than that of conventional surgery.

Transluminal placement of a stent graft in patients with an abdominal aortic aneurysm is a new endovascular technique that offers a potentially less invasive and less risky alternative to open surgery. Complications after stent graft placement are not infrequent, but in most cases secondary endovascular intervention is successful. We describe a late major leak in the aneurysmal sac caused by a distal migration of the iliac limb of a bifurcated graft.
