Introduction: Cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury (CSA-AKI) is a well-known complication that increases morbidity and mortality rates. The objective of this study was to reduce CSA-AKI through nephrologist intervention in patients awaiting cardiac surgery.
Methods: We performed a single center, open-label, randomized clinical trial including 380 patients who underwent scheduled cardiac surgery at the Hospital de Bellvitge between July 2015 and October 2019.
Aims: The once-daily extended-release tacrolimus formulation (ER-Tac) has demonstrated similar efficacy and safety to the twice-daily immediate-release formulation (IR-Tac), but few population-based pharmacokinetic models have been developed in kidney transplant patients to optimize doses. Therefore, this study aimed i) at developing a population pharmacokinetic model for ER-Tac in adult kidney transplant patients ii) and identifying genetic factors and time-varying covariates predictive of pharmacokinetic variability to guide tacrolimus dosage during the early post-transplant period.
Methods: A total of 1,067 blood tacrolimus concentrations from 138 kidney transplant patients were analyzed.
Post-transplant diabetes mellitus (PTDM) is a frequent complication after kidney transplantation (KT). This systematic review investigated the effect of different immunosuppressive regimens on the risk of PTDM. We performed a systematic literature search in MEDLINE and CENTRAL for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that included KT recipients with any immunosuppression and reported PTDM outcomes up to 1 October 2023.

Methods: This is a pilot prospective, double-blind randomized trial.
Background And Justification: The strategy of the concentration-dose (C/D) approach and the different profiles of tacrolimus (Tac) according to the cytochrome P450 polymorphisms (CYPs) focus on the metabolism of Tac and are proposed as tools for the follow-up of transplant patients. The objective of this study is to analyse both strategies to confirm whether the stratification of patients according to the pharmacokinetic behaviour of C/D corresponds to the classification according to their CYP3A4/5 cluster metabolizer profile.
Materials And Methods: 425 kidney transplant patients who received Tac as immunosuppressive treatment have been included.
Background: Paraproteins can interfere with several substances, producing erroneous laboratory measurements. The diagnosis of kidney disease in patients with hematological disorders has important prognosis implications. An elevated creatinine with no other signs of kidney disease should prompt the idea of a spurious creatinine.

Methods: Multicenter retrospective cohort study including patients from six Spanish centers who received a KT between 1991-2019. Demographic, clinical, and histological data were collected from recipients with biopsy-proven MN as primary kidney disease ( = 71) or MN diagnosed after KT ( = 4).
Background: Up to 50-60% of patients with diabetes have non-diabetic kidney disease (NDKD) on kidney biopsy. Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a microvascular complication of diabetes frequently associated with diabetic nephropathy (DN). The objective of the current study was to investigate the kidney outcomes and survival in patients with biopsy diagnoses of DN and NDKD according to the presence of DR.

Here, we developed and validated a Population pharmacokinetic (PPK) model including pharmacogenetics (cluster CYP3A4/CYP3A5), age, and hematocrit. Our study aimed to assess the clinical applicability of this PPK model in the achievement of Tac Co (therapeutic trough Tac concentration) compared to the manufacturer's labelling dosage.

Aim/objective: The aim of the present study was to compare outcomes between oncological patients and the general population with infection (CDI) after 90 days of follow-up.
Despite intensive monitoring of whole blood tacrolimus concentrations, acute rejection after kidney transplantation occurs during tacrolimus therapy. Intracellular tacrolimus concentrations could better reflect exposure at the site of action and its pharmacodynamics (PD). Intracellular pharmacokinetic (PK) profile following different tacrolimus formulations (immediate-release (TAC-IR) and extended-release (TAC-LCP)) remains unclear.

Methods: Multicenter, ecological, time-series study of aggregate data for all adult patients with COVID-19 treated in five acute-care hospitals in Barcelona, Spain, between March 2020 and May 2021. Trends in the monthly prevalence of drugs used against COVID-19 were analyzed by the Mantel-Haenszel test.
We present the one-pot synthesis of functionalized organosilica nanoparticles to generate multi-functional hybrid catalysts. Octadecyl, alkyl-thiol and alkyl-amino moieties were used separately and in different combinations, to generate different hybrid spherical nanoparticles with tunable acidic, basic and amphiphilic properties, covalently incorporating up to three organic functional elements onto the surface of the nanoparticles. Several parameters were optimised such as the concentration of the base employed during the hydrolysis and condensation synthesis process that showed a strong influence on the particle size.

The aim of this study is to compare the effect of kidney replacement therapy modality-peritoneal dialysis (TX-PD-TX), haemodialysis (TX-HD-TX) and preemptive deceased donor retransplantation (TX-TX) on patient survival and second KT outcomes.
Methods: A retrospective observational study from the Catalan Renal Registry was carried out.
The 2016 cumulative incidence of infection (CDI) in Spain was reported by the European Center for Disease Control to be above the mean of other European countries. The aim of this multicenter prospective observational cohort study was to examine the risk factors that determine 90-day CDI recurrence in Catalonia, Spain. The study included 558 consecutive adults admitted to hospital who had a symptomatic, first positive CDI diagnosis.

Methods: This multicenter prospective study included COVID-19 survivors 12 months after hospital discharge. Participants were randomly selected from a large cohort of COVID-19 patients who had been hospitalized until 15th April 2020.
Background: The incidence of catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSIs) has fallen over the last decade, especially in intensive care units (ICUs).
Aim: To assess the existence of concomitant trends in outcomes and to analyse the current risk factors for mortality.
Methods: A multicentre retrospective cohort study was conducted at 24 Catalan hospitals participating in the Surveillance of healthcare-associated infections in Catalonia (VINCat).
Bioactive compounds and nutritional characterization in three genotypes of mashua tubers ( Ruiz and Pavón) from different agroecological areas of the Peruvian highlands (3747 at 3888 meters above sea level) were studied. The studied genotypes from different agroecological areas significantly differed for vitamins, amino acids, and bioactive compounds. However, the nutritional characteristics of yellow, purple, and yellow-purple mashua remained unaffected.

Methods: All eligible patients were interviewed and underwent a physical examination, chest X-ray, and 6 min walk test (6MWT). Scales to evaluate post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, and HRQoL were applied.
Objectives: The effect of the use of immunomodulatory drugs on the risk of developing hospital-acquired bloodstream infection (BSI) in patients with COVID-19 has not been specifically assessed. We aim to identify risk factors for, and outcomes of, BSI among hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19 pneumonia.
Methods: We performed a severity matched case-control study (1:1 ratio) nested in a large multicentre prospective cohort of hospitalized adults with COVID-19.
Background: Low adherence to chronic immunosuppression is associated with suboptimal transplantation outcomes. Mobile-health technology is a promising tool to monitor medication adherence, but data on patient engagement to these tools are lacking.
Methods: Prospective, observational, multicenter, 2-phase trial in kidney and liver transplant recipients, investigating the degree of engagement to TrackYourMed (TYM), a novel m-Health technology with a QR code-scan app to track immunosuppression adherence and its association with drug monitoring.
This work presents an on-line fluorescence method for the allura red (AR) determination. The method is based on the fluorescence quenching of dots of MoS because of their interaction with the non-fluorescence dye. MoS-dots were synthetized and characterized by spectroscopic techniques and High Resolution Transmission Electronic Microscopy (HR-TEM).
