The progress of incorporating deep learning in the field of medical image interpretation has been greatly hindered due to the tremendous cost and time associated with generating ground truth for supervised machine learning, alongside concerns about the inconsistent quality of images acquired. Active learning offers a potential solution to these problems of expanding dataset ground truth by algorithmically choosing the most informative samples for ground truth labeling. Still, this effort incurs the costs of human labeling, which needs minimization.

Language-Independent Acoustic Biomarkers for Quantifying Speech Impairment in Huntington's Disease.

Purpose: Changes in voice and speech are characteristic symptoms of Huntington's disease (HD). Objective methods for quantifying speech impairment that can be used across languages could facilitate assessment of disease progression and intervention strategies. The aim of this study was to analyze acoustic features to identify language-independent features that could be used to quantify speech dysfunction in English-, Spanish-, and Polish-speaking participants with HD.

Association Between Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1 and Social Cognition in Huntington's Disease.

Background: Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) seems to be involved in the neural circuits associated with social cognition and brain structure.

Objectives: To investigate the association of IGF-1 levels with social cognition and brain structure in Huntington's disease (HD).

While the Foot and Ankle Outcome Score (FAOS) has previously been validated for use in multiple foot/ankle conditions, it has not yet been validated in patients with infracalcaneal heel pain. In this study we aimed to validate the FAOS by looking at 4 psychometric properties of the survey: construct validity, content validity, reliability, and responsiveness, using patients in our practice with a clinical diagnosis of plantar fasciitis.

We sought to explore the diagnostic yield of bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) in these patients with new pulmonary infiltrates. A retrospective chart review of approximately 200 Non- human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) leukemic and Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) patients who underwent bronchoscopy at a single academic cancer center was performed.

Parenteral and respiratory vaccinations with the intracellular bacterium Francisella tularensis have been studied using the live vaccine strain (LVS) in a mouse model, and spleen cells from immune mice are often used for immunological studies. However, mechanisms of host immunological responses may be different in nonlymphoid organs that are important sites of infection, such as lung and liver. Using parenteral (intradermal) or respiratory (cloud aerosol) vaccination, here we examine the functions of resulting LVS-immune liver or lung cells, respectively.

Sequential topoisomerase targeting and analysis of mechanisms of resistance to topotecan in patients with acute myelogenous leukemia.

Resistance to topoisomerase I (TOP1)-targeting drugs such as topotecan often involves upregulation of topoisomerase II (TOP2), with accompanying increased sensitivity to TOP2-targeting drugs such as etoposide. This trial was designed to investigate sequential topoisomerase targeting in the treatment of patients with high-risk acute myelogenous leukemia. An initial cohort of patients received topotecan and cytosine arabinoside daily for 5 days.

Prevalence and characteristics of immunomediated neuropathies in a group of patients with autoimmune diseases.

Objective: To determine the prevalence and the clinical-neurophysiological characteristics of immunomediated peripheral neuropathies (PN) in a group of patients with systemic autoimmune diseases.

Arthroscopic management of traumatic anterior shoulder instability in collision athletes: analysis of 204 cases with a 4- to 9-year follow-up and results with the suture anchor technique.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of arthroscopy in the selection of surgical procedure and treatment of both acute and recurrent traumatic anterior shoulder instability in rugby players by use of pre-established selection criteria. We describe the injury mechanisms, analyze the pathologic lesions and treatment indications based on surgical findings, and assess the results in patients treated with the arthroscopic suture anchor technique.

Methods: From November 1996 to November 2001, 204 rugby players with acute or recurrent traumatic anterior instability underwent an initial arthroscopic examination.
