We report a case of isolated immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) as a result of babesiosis infection. The patient initially presented with a history, physical exam and laboratory findings consistent with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. She was treated with standard of care therapy without clinical response.

Leiomyosarcoma of the rectum can develop as a late complication in patients with a history of pelvic irradiation. We report the case of a patient who developed rectal leiomyosarcoma 13 years after receiving radiation for treatment of a stage 2 squamous cell cancer of the anus. This was detected on physical examination.

Objective: Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are widely used in the treatment of gastritis, gastroesophageal reflux disease and peptic ulcer disease. Thrombocytopenia is not listed as one of the main side effects of PPI therapy. However, there have been documented cases of thrombocytopenia with the use of PPIs in the literature.
