Context: Anaplastic thyroid carcinomas (ATCs) and poorly differentiated thyroid carcinomas (PDTCs) exhibit distinct immune-related gene expression profiles. Most ATCs are characterized by active immune interactions (hot or altered immunosuppressed immunophenotypes), while PDTCs are largely immunologically inert (cold immunophenotypes).

Objective: This study aimed to elucidate the mechanisms driving these divergent immunological fates, focusing on the Wnt/β-catenin pathway and TP53 mutations.

However, delayed fixation using the gold-standard and carcinogenic fixative neutral-buffered formalin (NBF) can be a significant limitation to diagnosis and biopathological characterization.

Objectives: This review systematically summarizes the evidence on the economic impact of magnetic resonance image-guided RT (MRIgRT).

Methods: We systematically searched INAHTA, MEDLINE, and Scopus up to March 2022 to retrieve health economic studies. Relevant data were extracted on study type, model inputs, modeling methods and economic results.

An atypical gastric duplication cyst as a rare cause of gastric dilatation: the key role of the endoscopy ultrasound.

We have written a "letter to Editor" about a case of gastric dilatation caused by a symptomatic gastric duplication cyst with ectopic pancreas ingrowth, in a 13 years old boy. The Endoscopy Ultra Sound characterized the lesion and permitted the aspiration of the internal liquid. The patient underwent to laparoscopic excision of the mass and the histology revealed a gastric duplication cyst with ectopic pancreas ingrowth.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder with an early onset and a genetic and epigenetic component. ASD is characterized by deficits in socio-emotional reciprocity, impaired verbal and non-verbal communication skills, and specific difficulties in developing and maintaining adequate social relationships with peers. Indeed, restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities are required by DSM-5 diagnostic criteria.

A postural program to reduce dynamic knee valgus during single-limb squatting in young athletes: a preliminary study.

Background: Dynamic knee valgus (DKV) is an undesirable multi-joint movement pattern associated with anterior cruciate ligament injury and patellofemoral pain syndrome, especially in sport activities. We assessed DKV in young athletes who followed a postural program to reduce a posterior rigidity mostly attributable to the tightness of hamstring muscles.

Methods: We considered 12- to 18-year-old athletes that followed a six-week program simply based on hamstring stretching and abdominal muscle activation/strengthening.

The application of in silico medicine is constantly growing in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. These technologies allow us to support medical decisions and self-management and reduce, refine, and partially replace real studies of medical technologies. In silico medicine may challenge some key principles: transparency and fairness of data usage; data privacy and protection across platforms and systems; data availability and quality; data integration and interoperability; intellectual property; data sharing; equal accessibility for persons and populations.

Impact of Epithelial-Mesenchymal Immunophenotype on Local Aggressiveness in Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma Invading the Airway.

Primary thyroid tumours show different levels of aggressiveness, from indolent to rapidly growing infiltrating malignancies. The most effective therapeutic option is surgery when radical resection is feasible. Biomarkers of aggressiveness may help in scheduling extended resections such as airway infiltration, avoiding a non-radical approach.

Simulated versus physical bench tests: The economic evaluation of the InSilc platform for designing, developing, and assessing vascular scaffolds.

Background: In silico medicine allows for pre-clinical and clinical simulated assessment of medical technologies and the building of patient-specific models to support medical decisions and forecast personal health status. While there is increasing trust in the potential central role of in silico medicine, there is a need to recognize its degree of reliability and evaluate its economic impact. An in silico platform has been developed within a Horizon 2020-funded project (In-Silc) for simulations functional to designing, developing, and assessing drug-eluting bioresorbable vascular scaffolds.

Prognostic Significance of Pulmonary Multifocal Neuroendocrine Proliferation With Typical Carcinoid.

Background: The clinical significance of multifocal pulmonary neuroendocrine proliferation (MNEP), including tumorlets and pulmonary neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia, in association with typical carcinoid (TC), is still debated.

Methods: We evaluated a retrospective series of TC with long-term follow-up data prospectively collected from 2 institutions and compared the outcome between TC alone and MNEP plus TC. Several baseline covariates were imbalanced between the MNEP plus TC and TC groups; therefore, we conducted 1:1 propensity score matching and inverse probability of treatment weighting in the full sample.

Analysis of FDM and DLP 3D-Printing Technologies to Prototype Electromagnetic Devices for RFID Applications.

In this work, the application in Radiofrequency Identification (RFID) of different additive manufacturing (AM) 3D-printing technologies is discussed. In particular, the well-known Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) technology is compared with the promising Digital Light Processing (DLP), which is based on the photopolymerization of liquid resins. Based on the research activity of the authors on this topic, a brief introduction to the fundamentals of 3D-printing in electromagnetics as well as to the different applications of both FDM and DLP in realizing Radio Frequency (RF) devices, is firstly given.

Background: The programmed cell death-1 (PD-1) receptor and its ligands PD-L1 and PD-L2 are immune checkpoints that suppress anti-cancer immunity. Typically, cancer cells express the PD-Ls that bind PD-1 on immune cells, inhibiting their activity. Recently, PD-1 expression has also been found in cancer cells.

The effect of a postural exercise program on muscle power in Italian high school students.

[Purpose] The present study aimed to investigate the effect of an innovative postural program (the Canali Postural Method, CPM) on muscle power in Italian high school students. It is note that deficits in posture control may, in long term, generate posture weakness as early as childhood and adolescence. Postural programs based on stretching and strengthening exercises can remove these deficits and can be framed in general physical or sport activities.

Accuracy and feasibility of SentiMag technique for localization of non-palpable breast lesions.

Background: Non-palpable breast lesions are more frequent now than in the past due to the attention toward the mammary pathology and the screening diffusion; the marking of such lesions is very important for a successful surgery. The SentiMag System uses a magnetic marker that is inoculated transdermal in the breast through an 18-gauge needle.

Methods: Between April 1 and June 30, 2018, 16 patients with non-palpable breast lesions were selected and subjected to surgery using the SentiMag System in our Unit.

A Vision-Based Odometer for Localization of Omnidirectional Indoor Robots.

In this paper we tackle the problem of indoor robot localization by using a vision-based approach. Specifically, we propose a visual odometer able to give back the relative pose of an omnidirectional automatic guided vehicle (AGV) that moves inside an indoor industrial environment. A monocular downward-looking camera having the optical axis nearly perpendicular to the ground floor, is used for collecting floor images.

The Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor Is Expressed in Thyroid Carcinoma and Appears to Mediate Epithelial-Mesenchymal-Transition.

Aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) is expected to promote initiation, progression and invasion of cancer cells regulating proliferation, differentiation, gene expression, inflammation, cell motility and migration. Furthermore, an immunosuppressant function of AhR has been recognized. This study evaluated AhR expression and its role in thyroid cancer progression.

Multiple myeloma exploits Jagged1 and Jagged2 to promote intrinsic and bone marrow-dependent drug resistance.

Multiple myeloma is still incurable due to an intrinsic aggressiveness or, more frequently, to the interactions of malignant plasma cells with the bone marrow (BM) microenvironment. Myeloma cells educate BM cells to support neoplastic cell growth, survival, acquisition of drug resistance resulting in disease relapse. Myeloma microenvironment is characterized by Notch signaling hyperactivation due to the increased expression of Notch1 and 2 and the ligands Jagged1 and 2 in tumor cells.

Immune Profiling of Thyroid Carcinomas Suggests the Existence of Two Major Phenotypes: An ATC-Like and a PDTC-Like.

Objectives: The understanding of the mechanisms underlying thyroid cancer immune escape can lead to the identification of new molecular targets and/or efficacy biomarkers. For this purpose, we performed immune expression profiling in thyroid cancers to obtain a comprehensive view on immune mechanisms activated during cancer progression.

Methods: The study was conducted retrospectively in 25 papillary thyroid carcinomas (PTCs), 14 poorly differentiated thyroid carcinomas (PDTC), 13 anaplastic thyroid carcinomas (ATCs), and 7 normal thyroid (NT) tissue samples.

Importance: Emergency medical services (EMS) deliver essential initial care for patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA), but the extent to which patient outcomes vary between different EMS agencies is not fully understood.

Objective: To quantify variation in patient outcomes after OHCA across EMS agencies.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This observational cohort study was conducted in the Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium (ROC) Epistry, a prospective multicenter OHCA registry at 10 sites in North America.

A single session of laser ablation for toxic thyroid nodules: three-year follow-up results.

Purpose: To confirm the effectiveness of laser ablation on toxic nodules in a large population with three years of follow-up.

Material And Methods: Between 2009 and 2014, we treated 82 patients with hyperthyroidism related to the presence of a toxic nodular goitre. Patients were pre-treated pharmacologically with methimazole prior to single session of laser ablation (LA) and then followed up every 3 months with FT4 and TSH blood tests as well as ultrasound examination of the nodules treated.

Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) is a single chain oxidoreductase that catalyzes tryptophan degradation to kynurenine. In cancer, it exerts an immunosuppressive function as part of an acquired mechanism of immune escape. Recently, we demonstrated that IDO1 expression is significantly higher in all thyroid cancer histotypes compared with normal thyroid and that its expression levels correlate with T regulatory (Treg) lymphocyte densities in the tumor microenvironment.
