Molecular and Clinicopathologic Characterization of HER2-overexpressed Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Cervix.

HER2 amplification in cervical cancer has been associated with worse clinical prognosis and a potential favorable response to HER2 inhibitors. Immunohistochemistry for the HER2 receptor is a universally accepted surrogate test for HER2 amplification, but no standardized scoring system currently exists for cervical carcinomas. In this study, we investigated HER2 overexpression in cervical squamous cell carcinoma and correlated it with HER2 amplification using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and molecular methods.

Cytomorphologic and molecular characterization of spindle cell carcinoid tumors of the lung.

Background: Spindle cell carcinoid tumor (SCCT) is a rare variant of lung carcinoid tumor consisting predominantly or exclusively of spindle cells. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first study to date investigating the molecular characteristics of SCCTs.

Methods: Eighty-five carcinoid tumors initially diagnosed by fine-needle aspiration over a period of 10 years were reviewed.

Background: Interrupted aortic arch (IAA) is associated with left ventricular outflow tract obstruction (LVOTO) and DiGeorge syndrome. High-risk infantile surgery is required to address IAA, with limited data available on long-term outcomes. We used the Pediatric Cardiac Care Consortium, a multicenter US-based registry for pediatric cardiac interventions, to assess long-term outcomes after IAA repair by patient characteristics and surgical approach.

Assessment of treatment-specific tethering survival bias for the juvenile blue crab Callinectes sapidus in a simulated salt marsh.

The blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) is ecologically and economically important in Chesapeake Bay. Nursery habitats, such as seagrass beds, disproportionately contribute individuals to the adult segment of populations. Salt marshes dominated by smooth cordgrass Spartina alterniflora are intertidal nursery habitats which may serve as a refuge from predation for juvenile blue crabs.

The relationship between left ventricular dilation and right ventricular diastolic function in children with a patent ductus arteriosus.

The impact of a dilated left ventricular (LV) on right ventricular (RV) diastolic function has not been investigated. We hypothesized that in patients with a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), LV dilation causes elevation of the RV end-diastolic pressure (RVEDP) through ventricular-ventricular interaction. We identified patients' ages 6 months to 18 years who underwent transcatheter PDA closure at our center from 2010 to 2019.

Compressibility of Osteochondral Autograft Transfer Donor Grafts: A Comparison of Different Donor Regions and How Much Shortening Occurs of Plugs After Impaction.

Background: Osteochondral autograft transfer (OAT) is a useful technique for full-thickness cartilage lesions of the distal femur. Various techniques recommend harvesting a plug 2 mm longer than the recipient hole to allow for graft impaction. Grafts with limited compressibility may not sit flush when impacted.

Use of High-Resolution Ultrasound to Guide Alcohol Neurolysis for Chronic Pain.

Background: The diagnosis and treatment of neuropathic pain is often clinically challenging, with many patients requiring treatments beyond oral medications. To improve our percutaneous treatments, we established a clinical pathway that utilized ultrasound (US) guidance for steroid injection and alcohol ablation for patients with painful neuropathy.

Objectives: To describe a collaborative neuropathy treatment pathway developed by a neurosurgeon, pain physicians, and a sonologist, describing early clinical experiences and patient-reported outcomes.
