Article Synopsis
  • Collective migration of epithelial tissues is vital for developmental processes and maintaining tissue structure, requiring precise coordination of motion influenced by the substrate's mechanical properties.
  • The study finds that epithelial monolayers migrate faster on viscoelastic substrates with slower stress relaxation, leading to less deformation and enhanced fluidity.
  • Conversely, on faster-relaxing substrates, monolayers face more resistance, resulting in slower migration and limited cell movement, highlighting the importance of substrate characteristics in cell dynamics.

Rapid epithelial tissue flows are essential to building and shaping developing embryos. However, the mechanical properties of embryonic epithelial tissues and the factors that control these properties are not well understood. Actomyosin generates contractile tensions and contributes to the mechanical properties of cells and cytoskeletal networks , but it remains unclear how the levels and patterns of actomyosin activity contribute to embryonic epithelial tissue mechanics .

Epithelial cells generate functional tissues in developing embryos through collective movements and shape changes. In some morphogenetic events, a tissue dramatically reorganizes its internal structure - often generating high degrees of structural disorder - to accomplish changes in tissue shape. However, the origins of structural disorder in epithelia and what roles it might play in morphogenesis are poorly understood.

Background: Psychosis is a common manifestation of Parkinson's disease (PD), and a major source of caregiver burden, nursing home placement, and mortality. Psychosis symptoms are often not volunteered during the clinic visit because of embarrassment or lack of insight, and there is no validated screening scale. We compare a new self-administered psychosis screening questionnaire against the Parkinson's Disease Psychosis Scale (PDPS) and physician interview as the gold standard assessments.

Article Synopsis
  • Circulating monocytes can differentiate into macrophages in tumors and need to migrate through a dense collagen-rich environment to do so.
  • Research shows that increased stiffness and faster stress relaxation of the surrounding matrix enhance monocyte migration.
  • Monocyte migration relies on actin polymerization at the leading edge rather than matrix adhesions, allowing them to create paths through the viscous matrices.

Two Way Prayer Meditation (TWPM) is a spiritual intervention that holds promise for improving the psychospiritual well-being of individuals in recovery from substance use disorders (SUD). This study aimed to identify moderators of TWPM's treatment effects. Moderators tested included gender, race/ethnicity, age, education, religious/spiritual affiliation, and most often used substance.

Distinct patterns of actomyosin contractility are often associated with particular epithelial tissue shape changes during development. For example, a planar-polarized pattern of myosin II localization regulated by Rho1 signaling during Drosophila body axis elongation is thought to drive cell behaviors that contribute to convergent extension. However, it is not well understood how specific aspects of a myosin pattern influence the multiple cell behaviors, including cell intercalation, cell shape changes, and apical cell area fluctuations, that simultaneously occur during morphogenesis.

The study goal was to conduct a preliminary evaluation of a spiritual intervention called Two Way Prayer Meditation's (TWPM) effectiveness on the psychological distress, self-esteem, and spiritual well-being of people with substance use disorders. : This study employed a randomized controlled trial design with pretest and posttest. In total, 134 adults in four residential recovery programs participated in the study and were randomly assigned to either the TWPM group or the treatment as usual group.

Bereavement is prevalent among college students and spirituality/religiosity may play an important role in their bereavement adjustment. This is the first systematic review to investigate the spirituality/religiosity's relationship with bereavement among college students. We searched 10 databases and screened 598 studies.
