Objective: Little is known about the relative contribution of frontal and anterior temporal lobes in semantic knowledge of social norms in frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Therefore, this study examined performance of FTD patients with either frontal (F-FTD, left temporal (LT-FTD) or bitemporal lobe atrophy (BT-FTD) on the Social Norms Questionnaire (SNQ) and explored what accounts for the variance in the SNQ-break norm subscale (i.e.

To assess the relationship between doula utilization and health outcomes of females enrolled in Medicaid-affiliated plans in the United States. In this retrospective, observational cohort study, we used Medicaid claims data from a national health insurer to compare health outcomes between females who used and who did not use a doula (2014-2023). We conducted propensity score matching using a 1:1 case‒control match, without replacement, and fit logistic regressions to analyze the relative risks for maternal health outcomes.

The anatomically complex craniofacial skeleton demands special consideration when caring for cases of polytrauma or medically compromised patients with craniofacial fractures. This paper utilises a systematic review and multidisciplinary opinions to create an algorithm for the hospital-based care of patients with craniofacial fractures (base of skull, orbit, paranasal sinus, and mandible) who require non-invasive ventilation (NIV). Each fracture location has a unique predisposition to a different type of emphysema and associated morbidity.

Article Synopsis
  • Interracial relationships in the U.S. are common, yet their impact on physical health, particularly chronic conditions, is not fully understood.
  • A study using 18 years of data found that health outcomes vary based on the racial composition of couples, with White-Black couples having a higher risk of multiple chronic conditions compared to other interracial and same-race unions.
  • The findings suggest that closeness to Whiteness in interracial relationships may pose unique health risks for certain minorities, while minority-minority couples show similar health profiles to their same-race counterparts.

In the study, we engage the question of racial "fluidity" by examining patterns of ethnoracial identification in adolescence and, importantly, in ethnoracial identification between adolescence and adulthood using two waves of data from a nationally representative, longitudinal study of adolescents who were in Grades 7 to 12 during the 1994 to 1995 school year. Our theoretical framework draws from social identity theory and brings together bodies of research in race and immigration to make a case for the importance of phenotype, ancestry, and sociocultural elements as potential mechanisms for patterns among Latinx youth, as shifts in ethnoracial identification are predominantly a Latinx phenomenon. The bulk of the findings suggest that both phenotype and immigration are important factors for ethnoracial self-identification among Latinx youth, as well as shifts in their ethnoracial identification in young adulthood.

Studies suggest that religion is a protective factor for substance misuse and mental health concerns among Black/African American youth despite reported declines in their religious involvement. However, few studies have investigated the associations among religion, substance misuse, and mental health among Black youth. Informed by Critical Race Theory, we evaluated the correlations between gender, depression, substance misuse, and unprotected sex on mental health.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that causes joint pain, stiffness, and erosion. Power Doppler ultrasound and MRI are imaging modalities used in detecting and monitoring the disease, but they have limitations. ⁹⁹Tc-maraciclatide gamma camera imaging is a novel technique that can detect joint inflammation at all sites in a single examination and has been shown to correlate with power Doppler ultrasound.

Acquired drug resistance to anticancer targeted therapies remains an unsolved clinical problem. Although many drivers of acquired drug resistance have been identified, the underlying molecular mechanisms shaping tumour evolution during treatment are incompletely understood. Genomic profiling of patient tumours has implicated apolipoprotein B messenger RNA editing catalytic polypeptide-like (APOBEC) cytidine deaminases in tumour evolution; however, their role during therapy and the development of acquired drug resistance is undefined.

Complex congenital anomalies of the inferior vena cava (IVC) are rare sequelae of inappropriate persistence or regression of embryological precursor veins. These anomalies are typically asymptomatic and generally do not warrant intervention. Here we present a case of severely symptomatic left IVC with infrahepatic disruption, azygos continuation, and retroaortic left renal vein causing symptoms of severe pelvic congestion and recurrent miscarriages (8 total) in a 41 year old female.

Presented are design considerations for a potential detection and measurement technique that could provide operational awareness of high power microwave (HPM) directed energy weapon exposure for force health protection applications, leveraging thermoacoustic (TA) wave generation as the field interaction mechanism. The HPM electromagnetic frequency (EMF) regime, used in applications in both the counter-materiel and non-lethal counter-personnel design space, presents real-time personnel exposure warning challenges due to the potentially wide variation in time and frequency domain characteristics of the incident beam. As with other EM-thermal interactions, the thermoacoustic wave effect provides the potential to determine EM energy and power deposition without the need to measure ambient field intensity values or overload-sensitive EMF survey equipment.

Background: Human monoclonal antibody (mAb) treatments are promising for COVID-19 prevention or therapy. The pre-exposure prophylactic efficacy of neutralizing antibodies that are engineered with mutations to extend their persistence in human serum and the neutralizing antibody titer in serum required for protection against SARS-CoV-2 infection remain poorly characterized.

Methods: The Fc region of two neutralizing mAbs (COV2-2130 and COV2-2381) targeting non-overlapping epitopes on the receptor binding domain of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein was engineered to extend their persistence in humans and reduce interactions with Fc gamma receptors.
