Introduction: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disorder (IBD) with periods of relapse and remission. Current advancements in clinical research have led to the development of more refined and effective medical therapy for UC.

Summary Of The Evidence: Traditional therapeutic agents such as 5-aminosalicylates (5-ASAs), sulfasalazine (SASP), corticosteroids, and immunomodulatory drugs have remained the gold standard for decades.

Background: The use of alirocumab and evolocumab is generally safe and well-tolerated. However, concerns remain about their long-term safety, especially with regard to new-onset or worsening diabetes mellitus (DM). We aim to assess the safety profile of alirocumab and evolocumab compared to comparator.

Purpose: Arterial stiffness has gained recognition as a stand-alone risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Obesity is intricately linked to elevated arterial stiffness, the development of left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy, and the emergence of diastolic dysfunction, all of which collectively contribute substantially to an unfavorable prognosis. Weight loss has become a standard recommendation for all patients with CVD concurrent with morbid obesity; however, randomized evidence to support this recommendation was limited earlier.

Learning outcomes are an essential element in curriculum development because they describe what students should be able to do by the end of a course or program and they provide a roadmap for designing assessments. This article describes the development of competency-based learning outcomes for a one-semester undergraduate introductory human physiology course. Key elements in the development process included decisions about terminology, eponyms, use of the word "normal," and similar considerations for inclusivity.

Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and its prevention is more cost-effective than the treatment of its complications. Although cardiovascular (CV) risk assessment based on conventional risk factors is the general recommendation, a significant percentage of the population, irrespective of these risk factors, present with subclinical atherosclerosis during carotid Doppler ultrasound (US) imaging. Subclinical atherosclerotic lesions at the carotid bifurcations may be related to the incidence of future CV events and occult atherosclerotic coronary disease.

Heart failure (HF) is a common clinical condition encountered in various healthcare settings with a vast socioeconomic impact. Recent advancements in pharmacotherapy have led to the evolution of novel therapeutic agents with a decrease in hospitalization and mortality rates in HF with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (HFrEF). Lately, the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) to construct decision-making models for the early detection of HF has played a vital role in optimizing cardiovascular disease outcomes.

: The prevalence of breast cancer has increased and has currently become one of the most common cancers. Although the majority of the world's population is infected with Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) during their lives, the severity of symptoms varies and not everyone infected with EBV is diagnosed with cancer. EBV might increase the risk for breast cancer either by activating the HER2/HER3 signaling cascades or by creating a state of prolonged immune stimulation.

Purpose Of Review: This narrative review discusses the significance of probiotic therapy in the postoperative care of patients with esophageal cancer and its role as an adjunct therapy to other treatment modalities for esophageal cancer.

Recent Findings: As such, there is an emerging need to address any malnutrition and gastrointestinal problems occurring in these patients which tend to have a strong negative impact on their prognosis. Probiotic effects on esophageal cancer biomarkers suggest that there is a positive correlation between these two factors.

The 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has been a major dilemma all over the world since December 2019. Several types of COVID-19 vaccines were developed for public utilization to halt the widespread of the disease; however, vaccine hesitancy is one major factor that prevents a successful control of this pandemic. This study aimed to summarize the different kinds of available COVID-19 vaccines and their effectiveness, and to assess the associated factors regarding vaccine hesitancy of the general population to bridge the gap existing between the two factors.

Colonic diverticular bleeding is the most common cause of lower gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding, which can be life-threatening and frequently recurrent. In recent years, the prevalence of diverticulosis has increased in developed countries, with a documented incidence of 50% in patients older than 60 years. Based on the evidence, the use of anticoagulants and/or antiplatelets in the elderly population has resulted in an increased incidence of acute diverticular bleeding.

Prostate cancer (PCa) screening remains one of the most controversial topics in clinical and public health. Despite being the second most common cancer in men worldwide, recommendations for screening using prostate-specific antigen (PSA) are unclear. Early detection and the resulting postscreening treatment lead to overdiagnosis and overtreatment of otherwise indolent cases.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a disease involving the cardiac sarcomere. It is associated with various disease-causing gene mutations and phenotypic expressions, managed with different therapies with variable prognoses. The heterogeneity of the disease is evident in the fact that it burdens patients of all ages.

Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) is a variant of autonomic cardiovascular disorder characterized by an excessive increase in heart rate upon standing associated with light-headedness, headaches, chest pain, shortness of breath, and brain fog. The etiology of POTS is largely unknown and often debilitating. The 3 major hypotheses about the pathophysiology of POTS are autoimmunity, abnormally increased sympathetic activity, and sympathetic denervation leading to central hypovolemia and reflex tachycardia.

Fahr's disease is a rare neurodegenerative disorder first described by Karl Theodor in 1930, defined by abnormal calcified deposits in the basal ganglia and cerebral cortex. Fahr's disease commonly affects young to middle-aged adults with various clinical presentations, including endocrinologic, dermatologic, and neurologic problems, with extrapyramidal symptoms being the most common manifestation. In this case report, we present a case of an epileptic seizure as the first manifestation of Fahr's disease in a 45-year-old male.

Infective endocarditis is a life-threatening disease of the endocardium of the heart and cardiac valves, caused by several infectious agents, ranging from Streptococci to rickettsia. It has continued to be a serious cause of cardiac infection, with a rise in the incidence globally over the last 5 years. Despite diagnostic and therapeutic advances, its prognosis remains poor, and a surge in morbidity and hospital mortality highlights the significance of the swift diagnosis of this disease.

The following work investigates the heterogeneous nucleation of 2-oleodistearin (SOS) triglycerides on surfaces formed by crystals of tristearin triglyceride (SSS). This work shows, through computer simulations and nucleation kinetics, that SOS may heterogeneously nucleate on SSS surfaces. Atomic-scale molecular dynamics showed that SOS molecules exhibited an affinity to a simulated SSS surface.
