Objective: To determine the incidence of clinical and subclinical venous thromboembolic events (VTE) in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC) treated with high-dose thromboprophylaxis during definitive chemoradiation and brachytherapy.

Purpose: To compare the cost-effectiveness of a nurse-led sexual rehabilitation intervention with standard care in women treated with external beam radiotherapy, with or without brachytherapy, for gynaecological cancers.

Purpose: Standardized patient-reported outcomes (PRO) monitoring during and after rectal cancer treatment provides insight into treatment-related toxicities patients experience and improves health-related quality-of-life as well as overall survival. We aimed to select a subset of the PRO version of the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (PRO-CTCAE) for standardized monitoring of treatment-related symptomatic toxicities in rectal cancer.

Purpose: The benefit of intra-operative radiotherapy (IORT) in the treatment of locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) or locally recurrent rectal cancer (LRRC) lie in its ability to provide high-dose of radiation to limited at-risk volume, thereby eliminating microscopic disease and decreasing toxicity. A comparative study between high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy, named intra-operative brachytherapy (IOBT), and intra-operative electron radiotherapy (IOERT) was performed showing favorable LRFS after IOBT, possibly due to a higher surface dose that is inherent in IOBT technique. The IOERT technique in Catharina Hospital Eindhoven was adapted to increase the surface dose, aiming to improve local control.

Three dimensional modulation-enhanced single-molecule localization techniques, such as ModLoc, offer advancements in axial localization precision across the entire field of view and axial capture range, by applying phase shifting to the illumination pattern. However, this improvement is limited by the pitch of the illumination pattern that can be used and requires registration between separate regions of the camera. To overcome these limitations, we present ZIMFLUX, a method that combines astigmatic point-spread-function (PSF) engineering with a structured illumination pattern in all three spatial dimensions.

Although current guidelines on rectal cancer treatment often recommend rectal resection with or without neoadjuvant (chemo)radiotherapy, there is growing interest in organ-preserving treatment approaches among patients and clinicians in the Netherlands. Currently, multiple ongoing studies are investigating the value of different non-operative treatment modalities to improve tumour response rates and increase the chance of successful organ preservation. Papillon contact X-ray brachytherapy is a promising treatment modality to improve the chance of organ preservation, which seems especially relevant for elderly and frail patients unable or refusing to undergo total mesorectal excision surgery.

Purpose: Intra-operative radiotherapy (IORT) has been used as a tool to provide a high-dose radiation boost to a limited volume of patients with fixed tumors with a likelihood of microscopically involved resection margins, in order to improve local control. Two main techniques to deliver IORT include high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy, termed 'intra-operative brachytherapy' (IOBT), and electrons, termed 'intra-operative electron radiotherapy' (IOERT), both having very different dose distributions. A recent paper described an improved local recurrence-free survival favoring IOBT over IOERT for patients with locally advanced or recurrent rectal cancer and microscopically irradical resections.

High-NA light sheet illumination can improve the resolution of single-molecule localization microscopy (SMLM) by reducing the background fluorescence. Modulation enhanced single-molecule localization microscopy (meSMLM) methods improve the localization precision by using patterned illumination to encode additional position information. Iterative meSMLM (imeSMLM) methods iteratively generate prior information on emitter positions, used to locally improve the localization precision during subsequent iterations. The Cramér-Rao lower bound cannot incorporate prior information to bound the best achievable localization precision because it requires estimators to be unbiased.

Single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) arrays can be used for single-molecule localization microscopy (SMLM) because of their high frame rate and lack of readout noise. SPAD arrays have a binary frame output, which means photon arrivals should be described as a binomial process rather than a Poissonian process. Consequentially, the theoretical minimum uncertainty of the localizations is not accurately predicted by the Poissonian Cramér-Rao lower bound (CRLB).

Localization microscopy offers resolutions down to a single nanometer but currently requires additional dedicated hardware or fiducial markers to reduce resolution loss from the drift of the sample. Drift estimation without fiducial markers is typically implemented using redundant cross correlation (RCC). We show that RCC has sub-optimal precision and bias, which leaves room for improvement.
