EPIDEMIOLOGY, CLASSIFICATION, AND TREATMENT OF BILATERAL FRACTURES OF THE DISTAL RADIUS.

Objective: To study epidemiology, fracture pattern, associated injuries, and treatment of individuals with bilateral distal radius fracture, in a tertiary hospital.

Methods: Retrospective cross-sectional study developed based on patients with bilateral distal radius fracture from January 2012 to November 2017. Demographic data, trauma mechanism, radiological patterns, degree of deviation, associated injuries, classification of fractures according to the Association of Osteosynthesis (AO), the Salter-Harris (SH) and Frykman scales, and type of treatment used in each case.

Evaluation of the Interobserver Agreement of the Fraser and Blake & McBryde Classifications for Floating Knee.

 To evaluate the interobserver agreement of two classifications for floating knee: Fraser and Blake & McBryde.  Thirty-two observers, subdivided according to the degree of titration (26 resident physicians and 6 orthopedic physicians specialized in orthopedic trauma), classified 15 fractures of the ipsilateral femur and tibia. Interobserver agreement was evaluated by using the Kappa coefficient  When evaluating the agreement between the 9 R1, a Kappa index of 0.

CLINICAL RESULT OF PATIENTS WITH DISTAL BICEPS TENDON RUPTURE WITH ENDOBUTTON.

Objective: To evaluate the results obtained in the repair of distal biceps injury using the single-incision approach with endobutton use; complications; and ability to return to sport.

Methods: 14 athletes with rupture of the distal tendon of the biceps brachii submitted to surgical repair using a single route with endobutton were evaluated. The parameters analyzed were: Mayo Elbow Performance Score (MEPS), flexion-extension range of motion and pronation-supination, and the ability to return to sports practice.

INTER- AND INTRA-OBSERVER RELIABILITY OF SCHATZKER, AO, AND LUO CLASSIFICATIONS FOR TIBIAL PLATEAU FRACTURES.

Objective: To verify inter- and intra-observer agreement of three classification systems for tibial plateau fractures - Schatzker, AO/ASIF, and Luo's - among orthopedic surgery residents.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 29 observers. Radiographic and tomographic imaging of the knee of 15 patients presenting with fractures were evaluated.

Bilateral Avulsion Fracture of the Fibula Head of the Knee Associated with Avulsion Fracture of the Iliotibial Band: A Rare Case of Fracture Segond Associated with Arcuate Fracture.

Fibular head avulsion fractures are rare and are so-called the arcuate signal. Avulsion fracture of the iliotibial band and anterolateral ligament is known as a Segond fracture, and it is another rare entity. We describe the case of a 27-year-old woman who was hit by a car and suffered polytrauma, mainly suffering injuries to both knees.

Glycemic control and diabetes management in hospitalized patients in Brazil.

Background: The importance of tight blood glucose control among outpatients with diabetes mellitus is well established, however, the management of diabetes in the hospital setting is generally considered secondary in importance. This study sought to assess glycemic control and diabetes management in adult patients admitted to hospitals in Brazil.

Methods: A cross-sectional and nationwide survey was conducted from July 2010 to January 2012.

DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC ARTHROSCOPY IN SYMPTOMATIC PATIENTS AFTER KNEE ARTHROPLASTY.

Objectives: Assess the worthiness of arthroscopy in investigating and treating knee pain after arthroplasty unexplained by clinical and subsidiary examinations.

Methods: Among 402 patients submitted to total or unicompartimental arthroplasty between September 2001 and April 2007 at a public university hospital, 17 presented with pain on prosthetic articulation, without clear diagnosis by clinical, X-ray, laboratory, scintiscan, or nuclear magnetic resonance tests. All patients were submitted to arthroscopy and symptoms were assessed by using the Lysholm scale, comparing pre-and post-arthroscopy periods.

Evaluation of renal function in leprosy: a study of 59 consecutive patients.

Background: Renal abnormalities in leprosy have been largely described in medical literature, but there are few studies evaluating renal function in these patients.

Methods: This is a cross-sectional study in 59 consecutive paucibacillary (PB) and multibacillary (MB) leprosy patients. Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) was estimated by simplified-MDRD formula.
