Intro: There were over 60 firefighter line of duty deaths and roughly 30,000 injuries in the United States in 2016. Modern thermoprotective gear has reduced the risks firefighters face from both thermal and inhalation injury, but must be used properly to be effective. The purpose of this study is to examine gear use and associated injury in firefighters.

This analysis explores FFDs between 1990 and 2016 to determine high-risk groups for outreach and training. We hypothesized that many transferred patients were discharged home after brief hospitalizations and without need for operation. Retrospective chart review was performed for all adult and pediatric transfers to our regional burn center from July 2012 to July 2014.
