Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is one of the most performed orthopedic surgeries worldwide. For many years, TKA implants were positioned according to a systematic approach known as mechanical alignment, which prioritized implant survival over the restoration of a more physiological knee. A high dissatisfaction rate of 20% after knee prosthesis has led to a rethinking of coronal alignment and a move towards a more personalized approach.

Article Synopsis
  • * Spontaneous rupture of the LHB tendon can lead to pain relief, but diagnosing LHB lesions is complicated due to overlapping conditions and requires specific tests and imaging.
  • * Treatment for bicipital issues often involves surgery, but isolated management of biceps lesions can still yield good outcomes when comprehensive treatment is not possible.

Taking inspiration from the hydrophilic and superhydrophilic properties observed from the nanostructures present on the leaves of plants such as , , and , we were able to synthesize cupric oxide (CuO) nanostructures from the plasma surface modification of copper (Cu) that exhibits hydrophilic and superhydrophilic properties. The Cu sheets were exposed to oxygen plasma produced from the P300 plasma device (Alliance Concept, Cran-Gevrier, France) at varying power, irradiation times, gas flow rates, and pulsing duty cycles. The untreated and plasma-treated Cu sheets were characterized by contact angle measurements, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) to determine the changes in the surface of Cu before and after plasma treatment.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the 30 chronic conditions specifically listed by the French healthcare system as a long-term disease (affections de longue durée [ALD]) for which the main health insurance fund (Caisse nationale d'assurance maladie des travailleurs salariés [CNAMTS]) provides full (100%) coverage of healthcare costs. The CNAMTS insures 87% of the French population (52,359,912 of the 60,028,292 inhabitants). The objectives of this study were to evaluate the direct and indirect medical costs of MS among the entire population insured by the CNAMTS in France in 2004.

The optimization and validation of a method for the determination of phosphine in plant materials are described. The method is based on headspace sampling over the sample heated in 5% sulfuric acid. Critical factors such as sample amount, equilibration conditions, method of quantitation, and matrix effects are discussed, and validation data are presented.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined comorbidities in a large French cohort of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), focusing on those diagnosed before age 45 and over a decade-long period.
  • Around 3% of these patients had comorbid conditions at the time of their MS diagnosis, primarily categorized into psychiatric, autoimmune, cardiovascular, cancer, and metabolic diseases.
  • It was found that MS patients with comorbidities were diagnosed at an older age compared to those without, and that psychiatric disorders and diabetes were notably more common among MS patients than in the general population.

Background: In France, the incidence of multiple sclerosis (MS) is not well known, and MS is one of the 30 long-term illnesses for which patients are covered for 100% of their health care costs.

Objective: To estimate the incidence of MS in France and its geographic variations.

Methods: We estimated the national rate for notification of MS to the main French health insurance system, and its confidence interval (CI), between November 2000 and October 2007, which covers 87% of the population.

France is located in an area with a medium to high prevalence of multiple sclerosis, where its epidemiology is not well known. We estimated the national and regional prevalence of multiple sclerosis in France on 31 October 2004 and the incidence between 31 October 2003 and 31 October 2004 based on data from the main French health insurance system: the Caisse Nationale d'Assurance Maladie des Travailleurs Salariés. The Caisse Nationale d'Assurance Maladie des Travailleurs Salariés insures 87% of the French population.

In France, the risk of multiple sclerosis is considered medium to high risk. Several incidence and prevalence studies have been performed at regional and national levels. Prevalence is evaluated between 143 and 60 per 100 000 inhabitants.

Little is known about the economic burden associated with colorectal cancer in France. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of age, stage at diagnosis, health care pattern and level of comorbidities on the mean cost of the management of colorectal cancers, using data from a population-based registry and the French health care system. We estimated the direct costs of medical care for 384 colorectal cancers diagnosed in 2004, using the three main databases of the National Health Insurance.

Investigations about the recycling of sheet moulding compounds (SMC) waste as incorporation material for thermoplastic polymer matrix are reported in this paper. A new efficient process is developed in order to strongly increase the reinforcement glass fraction of SMC leading to good mechanical performance of the new thermoplastic compounds. The overall process is composed of two main steps: mechanical and chemical.

To clarify the origin of local cold adaptation and to define precisely its influence on muscle bio-energetics during local exercise, five subjects were subjected to repeated 5 degrees C cold water immersion of the right hand and forearm. The first aim of our investigation was therefore carried out by measuring local skin temperatures and peripheral blood flow during a cold hand test (5 degrees C, 5 min) followed by a 10-min recovery period. The 31P by nuclear magnetic resonance (31PNMR) muscle bio-energetic changes, indicating possible heat production changes, were measured during the recovery period.
