Background And Purpose: Pseudoprogression is a frequent phenomenon observed since the introduction of postoperative therapy with radiotherapy and temozolomide (RT/TMZ) in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) patients. However, the criteria defining pseudoprogression, its incidence, the time of occurrence and its impact on therapy and outcome remain poorly defined.

Methods: The objective of this study is to compare two sets of criteria (liberal and stringent), defining pseudoprogression, in a cohort of patients treated before and after the introduction of RT/TMZ in the standard postoperative treatment.

Background And Purpose: Oxytocin (OT) plays a major role in the control of male sexual responses. Notably, blockade of OT receptors has been reported to inhibit ejaculation in animals. The study aimed to investigate the action of a highly selective, non-peptide OT antagonist GSK557296 in a model of pharmacologically induced ejaculation in anaesthetized rats.

Papillary proliferation of the endometrium (PPE) without cytologic atypia is uncommon and has only been studied in detail by Lehman and Hart in 2001. On histologic examination, PPE ranges from simple papillae with fibrovascular cores, often involving the surface of endometrial polyps, to complex intracystic proliferations; some consider the latter to be analogous to nonatypical complex hyperplasia. To further characterize PPE, with emphasis on the risk of and features associated with concurrent or subsequent neoplasia, the clinicopathologic features of 59 cases without cytologic atypia were studied.

Individuals with two independent chromosome rearrangements are rare and meiotic segregation studies are few. Two brothers (P1 and P2) and a cousin (P3) were karyotyped and found to have the same familial reciprocal translocation between the long arm of chromosome 8 and the short arm of chromosome 9: 46,XY,t(8;9)(q24.3;p24).

In the canton de Vaud, General Practioners (GPs) caring for asylum seekers under the "aide d'urgence" regime can ask for an adaptation of their housing conditions, by filling out a specific form and addressing it to the medical commission responsible for advising the EVAM (the housing institution for asylum seekers) on these issues. The forms addressed to the commission are indicative of a worrisome state of health in this population, especially for mental health. More than 70% report at least one psychiatric diagnosis.

Introduction: A brain network specifically activated when ejaculation occurs has been described in rats. Increasing serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine [5-HT]) tone impairs ejaculation and chronic 5-HT selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are known to inhibit ejaculation. However, efficacy of acute treatment with SSRI varies from one compound to another.

The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) plays an important role in the pathogenesis of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Despite the high expression of EGFR in HNSCC, EGFR inhibitors have only limited success as monotherapy. The Grb2-associated binder (GAB) family of adaptor proteins acts as docking/scaffolding molecules downstream of tyrosine kinase receptors.

Background: With poor prognosis and disabling symptomatology high-grade gliomas affect not only the patient but also the family.

Purpose: The aim of this systematic review is to explore the experiences and needs of patients with a high-grade glioma and their family caregivers.

Method: Based on literature search in six databases, sixteen qualitative studies, published between 2000 and 2010 and with mixed methodological quality, were included.

Purpose: Dendritic cell (DC)-based tumor vaccination has rendered promising results in relapsed high-grade glioma patients. In the HGG-2006 trial (EudraCT 2006-002881-20), feasibility, toxicity, and clinical efficacy of the full integration of DC-based tumor vaccination into standard postoperative radiochemotherapy are studied in 77 patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma.

Patients And Methods: Autologous DC are generated after leukapheresis, which is performed before the start of radiochemotherapy.

Background: Allergic rhinitis (AR) carries a high symptom burden and impact on quality of life. The ability of an AR treatment to achieve and sustain symptom suppression would be expected to enhance quality of life and improve long-term outcomes.

Methods: In this ad hoc analysis of data from 4 phase 3 clinical trials of mometasone furoate nasal spray (MFNS), subjects with perennial AR recorded the severity of nasal symptoms twice daily for 12 weeks on a 4-point scale to determine the total nasal symptom score.

Introduction: The obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA) is a frequently occurring condition, which is becoming a major public health problem because it can be responsible for accidents due to excessive daytime drowsiness and because of associated cardiovascular complications. This study was aimed at testing the practice and knowledge of general practitioners relating to OSA.

Methods: Three hundred and thirty-four French military practitioners were surveyed using a questionnaire sent to them by post.

Bone is a multiscale composite material made of both a type I collagen matrix and a poorly crystalline apatite mineral phase. Due to remodeling activity, cortical bone is made of Bone Structural Units (BSUs) called osteons. Since osteon represents a fundamental level of structural hierarchy, it is important to investigate the relationship between mechanical behavior and tissue composition at this scale for a better understanding of the mechanisms of bone fragility.

Objectives: Advanced salivary gland cancer is a rare disease that comprises different histopathological tumour types; correspondingly, data on palliative systemic treatment are scarce. Combination chemotherapy with cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, and cisplatin (CAP) has been reported to induce a reasonable response rate, although fewer than 100 cases have been described. We conducted a retrospective review of advanced salivary gland cancer patients treated with CAP.

Objective: Molecular cytogenetic techniques on uncultured prenatal samples are the sole tests applied in some countries in cases with advanced maternal age (AMA) or increased risk after prenatal screening. Moreover, there is a trend to perform invasive prenatal diagnosis (PD) during the first trimester before ultrasound manifestations, so new rapid and reliable assays are necessary to investigate microdeletions not detectable with the conventional karyotype. We report the validation study of the prenatal bacterial artificial chromosomes-on-Beads™ (BoBs™ ; CE-IVD), a bead-based multiplex assay detecting chromosomes 13, 18, 21, X/Y aneuploidies and nine microdeletion regions having an overall detection rate of 1/1700.

Background: No treatments are presently available to increase survival in patients with recurrent or metastatic squamous-cell carcinoma of the head and neck after failure of platinum-based chemotherapy. We aimed to assess efficacy and safety of zalutumumab, a human IgG1 monoclonal antibody targeting the epidermal growth factor receptor, for overall survival in such patients.

Methods: In our open-label, parallel-group, phase 3, randomised trial, we randomly allocated patients with squamous-cell carcinoma of the head and neck who were regarded as incurable with standard therapy, a WHO performance status of 0-2, and progressive disease within 6 months of platinum-based therapy in a 2:1 ratio to receive zalutumumab plus best supportive care (zalutumumab group) or best supportive care with optional methotrexate (control group) at medical centres in Europe, Brazil, and Canada.

Objectives: Both nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP) therapy and nose blowing can generate high pressures in the nose and sinuses. Nose blowing generates higher pressures than nCPAP therapy, but the duration of nCPAP therapy is considerably longer than the duration of nose blowing. Therefore, nCPAP could cause bone deformation.
