Dramatic changes in the health system due to national health reform are raising important questions regarding the educational preparation of social workers for the new health arena. While dual-degree programs in public health and social work can be an important response to what is needed educationally, little is known about them. The National MSW/MPH Programs Study surveyed MSW/MPH program administrators to better understand the prevalence, models, structure, and challenges of these dual-degree programs.

Sleep deprivation, abnormal sleep patterns arising from working rotating shifts, and exposure to high ambient temperatures contribute to physical and cognitive dysfunction. We examined the effects of these on 19 (41.5 ± 5.

Lungfish first appeared in the geological record over 410 million years ago and are the closest living group of fish to the tetrapods. Palaeoneurological investigations into the group show that unlike numerous other fishes-but more similar to those in tetrapods-lungfish appear to have had a close fit between the brain and the cranial cavity that housed it. As such, researchers can use the endocast of fossil taxa (an internal cast of the cranial cavity) both as a source of morphological data but also to aid in developing functional and phylogenetic implications about the group.

Background: Low-dose azithromycin has beneficial effects on severity of the lung disease in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients for a period of 6-12 months after initiation of the treatment. Although its impact in the longer term is uncertain, this treatment is frequently used chronically. The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate the effects of low-dose azithromycin treatment on the progression of CF lung disease in patients treated for more than 12 months.

Zhang et al interpret the mixed-layer energy budget in models as showing that "ocean dynamics play a central role in the AMO." Here, we show that their diagnostics cannot reveal the causes of the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) and that their results can be explained with minimal ocean influence. Hence, we reaffirm our findings that the AMO in models can be understood primarily as the upper-ocean thermal response to stochastic atmospheric forcing.

Introduction: During acute dyspnea (AD), respiratory exhaustion is mainly due to diaphragm fatigue. The primary objective was to validate interobserver reproducibility of diaphragmatic excursion (DE) in emergency department (ED) patients admitted for AD. The secondary objectives were to assess the feasibility of DE measurement and intraobserver reproducibility.

Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is an autosomal recessive disease characterized by chronic respiratory infections of the upper and lower airways, hypofertility, and, in approximately half of the cases, situs inversus. This complex phenotype results from defects in motile cilia and sperm flagella. Among the numerous genes involved in PCD, very few-including CCDC39 and CCDC40-carry mutations that lead to a disorganization of ciliary axonemes with microtubule misalignment.

Comparative linkage mapping can rapidly facilitate the transfer of genetic information from model species to orphan species. This macrosynteny analysis approach has been extensively used in plant species, but few example are available in fungi, and even fewer in mushroom crop species. Among the latter, the Agaricus genus comprises the most cultivable or potentially cultivable species.

Idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIPs) comprise a heterogeneous group of rare lung parenchyma disorders with high morbidity and mortality, which can occur at all ages. In adults, the most common form of IIPs, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), has been associated with an increased frequency of lung cancer. The molecular basis of IIPs remains unknown in most cases.

In this study, we evaluated the performance of two novel conductive carbon black (CB) and polydimethlysiloxane (PDMS) bio-potential electrodes, with and without an integrated flexible copper mesh, against commercially available electrodes (Polar(®) textile, Silver-coated textile, and carbon rubber). The electrodes were tested in three types of water (fresh/unfiltered, chlorinated, and salt water). Our testing revealed that our CB/PDMS electrode with integrated copper mesh provided a high-fidelity ECG signal morphologies without any amplitude degradation in all of the types of water tested (N = 10).

Pediatric eosinophilic pneumonias (EPs) are characterized by a significant infiltration of the alveolar spaces and lung interstitium by eosinophils, with conservation of the lung structure. In developed countries, EPs constitute exceptional entities in pediatric care. Clinical symptoms may be transient (Löffler syndrome), acute (<1 month and mostly <7 days), or chronic (>1 month).

This work describes the development of new 6-[(18) F]fluoro-carbohydrate-based prosthetic groups equipped with an azido arm that are able to participate in copper(I)-catalyzed cycloadditions for (18) F labeling of biomolecules under mild conditions. The radiolabeling in high radiochemical yields (up to 68 ± 6%) of these different prosthetic groups is presented. The flexibility of the azido arm introduced on the carbohydrate moieties allows efficient click reactions with different alkyne functionalized peptides such as gluthation or Arg-Gly-Asp derivatives in order to prepare glycopeptides.

Introduction: There is a lack of evidence concerning the effectiveness of immunoprophylaxis with palivizumab in children with childhood interstitial lung disease (chILD). In this retrospective study, we evaluated the effectiveness of palivizumab for decreasing the rate of RSV-related hospitalizations in children under the age of 24 months with chILD treated with corticosteroids.

Methods: A retrospective national study was conducted in France.

Behavioral and electrophysiological evidence suggests that visual attention operates in parallel at distinct spatial locations and samples the environment in periodic episodes. This combination of spatial and temporal characteristics raises the question of whether attention samples locations in a phase-locked or temporally independent manner. If attentional sampling rates were phase locked, attention would be limited by a global sampling rate.

Background: Guided growth is often used to correct limb deformity and yet implant screw failure in modular systems has been reported. There have been no reports of plate failure and we do not know the exact mode of failure when screws do break.

Methods: We report the first published case of a fractured plate in a modular plate and screw construct that was used to correct Blount disease in a child through guided growth.

Although the brains of the three extant lungfish genera have been previously described, the spatial relationship between the brain and the neurocranium has never before been fully described nor quantified. Through the application of virtual microtomography (μCT) and 3D rendering software, we describe aspects of the gross anatomy of the brain and labyrinth region in the Australian lungfish, Neoceratodus forsteri and compare this to previous accounts. Unexpected characters in this specimen include short olfactory peduncles connecting the olfactory bulbs to the telencephalon, and an oblong telencephalon.

The Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) is a major mode of climate variability with important societal impacts. Most previous explanations identify the driver of the AMO as the ocean circulation, specifically the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC). Here we show that the main features of the observed AMO are reproduced in models where the ocean heat transport is prescribed and thus cannot be the driver.

The identification of small molecules that target specific CFTR variants has ushered in a new era of treatment for cystic fibrosis (CF), yet optimal, individualized treatment of CF will require identification and targeting of disease modifiers. Here we use genome-wide association analysis to identify genetic modifiers of CF lung disease, the primary cause of mortality. Meta-analysis of 6,365 CF patients identifies five loci that display significant association with variation in lung disease.

The increase in antibiotic-resistant bacteria and emerging highly drug-resistant bacteria is resulting in alarming situations of treatment failure. In hospitals, precautionary measures to control nosocomial infections are put in place through the collaboration between caregivers, the operational hygiene team and the nosocomial infection control committee, in accordance with official recommendations.
