Imaging the Area of Internal Limiting Membrane Peeling after Macular Hole Surgery.

: The aim of this study was to compare en-face optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging and confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (cSLO) imaging at different wavelengths to identify the internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling area after primary surgery with vitrectomy and ILM peeling for macular hole (MH). In total, 50 eyes of 50 consecutive patients who underwent primary surgery with vitrectomy and ILM peeling for MH were studied. The true ILM rhexis based on intraoperative color fundus photography was compared to the presumed ILM rhexis identified by a blinded examiner using en-face OCT imaging and cSLO images at various wavelengths.

"Don't Walk in There": The Challenges Birthing Persons Face at the Clinic.

During the summer of 2021, the author spent a week at an abortion clinic in the southern United States with two of his undergraduate students. In this piece, he engages in autoethnography and writing as a therapeutic process to show how his experience with his students changed his outlook on what abortion clinic workers, volunteers, and birthing persons go through every day. What has been happening outside abortion clinics across the country for decades needs to stop, and as someone who was not well-informed or involved before his trip to the abortion clinic, the author encourages others like him to take action to support abortion clinics with their important mission to protect the healthcare rights of birthing persons.

Clinical Landscape of Central Serous Chorioretinopathy in Germany: Retina.net CSC Registry Report Number 1.

Introduction: The German Registry of central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) collects data on CSC patients in a nationwide multicenter approach to analyze epidemiology, risk factors, clinical presentations, as well as diagnosis and treatment patterns.

Methods: In this multicenter cohort study, patients with CSC were enrolled in nine tertiary referral centers in Germany between January 2022 and June 2023. After consenting to the study, demographic data, risk factors, reported symptoms, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), funduscopic findings, disease severity, and diagnostic and treatment decisions were recorded and analyzed.

[Lens injury as a complication of intravitreal medication injection].

Background: Intravitreal medication injections are an efficient and low-risk delivery technique for treating various retinal diseases. Rare serious complications include increased intraocular pressure, vitreous hemorrhage, retinal tears and detachment, intraocular inflammation and endophthalmitis. In the case series presented here, we report iatrogenic lens injuries caused by inadequate performance of intravitreal injections.

Current Perspectives on Type 3 Macular Neovascularization due to Age-Related Macular Degeneration.

Background: The aim of this review was to systematically summarize the current knowledge on type 3 macular neovascularization (MNV3) in age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Summary: Recent histopathologic and multimodal imaging findings led to the consensus definition of the new term "type 3 macular neovascularization" in AMD. MNV3 originates in the deep vascular plexus as a neovascular process without connection with the retinal pigment epithelium in the initial stages.

[Iatrogenic retinal defects after intravitreal operative drug injections].

Background: Intravitreal operative drug injections represent one of the most frequently performed medical interventions. The risk profile is low. In addition to intraocular pressure elevation, the most frequent complications include exogenous endophthalmitis, vitreous hemorrhage and rhegmatogenous retinal detachment.

A severe acute respiratory coronavirus virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) nosocomial cluster with inter-facility spread: Lessons learned.

Background: Despite infection control guidance, sporadic nosocomial coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreaks occur. We describe a complex severe acute respiratory coronavirus virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) cluster with interfacility spread during the SARS-CoV-2 δ (delta) pandemic surge in the Midwest.

Setting: This study was conducted in (1) a hematology-oncology ward in a regional academic medical center and (2) a geographically distant acute rehabilitation hospital.

Old Problem in a New Guise: Retinal Pigment Epithelium Tear after Intravitreal Faricimab (Vabysmo) Injection.

This case report describes a 78-year-old patient who developed a tear of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) during faricimab (Vabysmo) therapy. After three consecutive intravitreal aflibercept (Eylea) injections with persistent disease activity, therapy was switched to faricimab. The patient experienced a tear in the RPE 4 weeks postinjection.

Many studies emphasize a correlation between the material characteristics of the tumor extracellular matrix (ECM) and the invasive properties of tumor cells and even a trigger of tumor aggressiveness. Herein, we report that the previously observed trigger of migration characteristics of MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells during transmigration across interfaces of two differently porous matrices is strongly correlated with a persistent change in cell invasiveness and aggressiveness.

Compliance to a Standardized Protocol for Stock Albuterol Medication among School Staff.

A stock inhaler program provided access to rescue medication (albuterol sulfate) for school children. School staff were provided with a standardized protocol for medication administration. We hypothesized licensed nurses were more likely to report compliant events compared to unlicensed school staff.

Chronic intestinal inflammation underlies inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Previous studies indicated alterations in the cellular immune system; however, it has been challenging to interrogate the role of all immune cell subsets simultaneously. Therefore, we aimed to identify immune cell types associated with inflammation in IBD using high-dimensional mass cytometry.

Methods: Using the Area Deprivation Index (ADI), we examined relationships between albuterol use and neighborhood deprivation among schools participating in the Pima County (Arizona) Stock Inhaler Program. Schools were categorized into quartiles based on their census block ADI.

Introduction: The aim was to identify changes in continuing education and training in ophthalmology in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and advancing digitalization and to analyse the acceptance of e-learning tools among German ophthalmologists using a novel Retina Case App as an example.

In this observational prospective study, 20 patients with exclusively RPD and no other alteration due to age-related macular degeneration were included.
