Organomineral Fertilizer as Source of P and K for Sugarcane.

Sugarcane (Saccharum spp) crop has high social, economic and environmental importance for several regions throughout the world. However, the increasing demand for efficiency and optimization of agricultural resources generates uncertainties regarding high mineral fertilizer consumption. Thereby, organomineral fertilizers are to reduce the conventional sources consumption.

All-optical cryptography of M-QAM formats by using two-dimensional spectrally sliced keys.

There has been an increased interest in enhancing the security of optical communications systems and networks. All-optical cryptography methods have been considered as an alternative to electronic data encryption. In this paper we propose and verify the use of a novel all-optical scheme based on cryptographic keys applied on the spectral signal for encryption of the M-QAM modulated data with bit rates of up to 200 gigabits per second.

Effects of long-term chronic exposure to sun radiation in immunological system of commercial fishermen in Recife, Brazil.

Background: Among the various occupations which necessarily require long-term and chronic sun exposure is that of a fisherman. However, clinical experience in dermatology earned over several years of medical practice does not seem to confirm this hypothesis.

Objective: To evaluate clinical, histological and immunological effects of long-term and chronic exposure to ultraviolet radiation in fishermen.

Role of mast cells as IL10 producing cells in paracoccidioidomycosis skin lesions.

Recent works have demonstrated that mast cells may have an important role in immunologic reactions and inflammation once they synthesize and secrete many cytokines including IL4, IL5, IL6 and TNF-alpha. We have conducted research in order to verify if mast cells would participate in the local inflammatory immune response against Paracoccidioides brasiliensis in skin lesions characterized by a Th2 pattern of cytokines. Fifty-nine skin biopsies with previous histopathological diagnosis of paracoccidioidomycosis and immunohistochemical characterization of cytokines present in the inflammatory infiltrate were classified in three groups: group 1 (G1), with compact granuloma and a Th1 pattern of cytokines; group 2 (G2), with loose granuloma and a Th2 pattern of cytokines; group 3 (G3), both kind of granuloma in the same lesion, characterized by cytokines from Th1 and Th2 patterns.

Dietary sodium chloride restriction enhances aortic wall lipid storage and raises plasma lipid concentration in LDL receptor knockout mice.

This study aimed at measuring the influence of a low salt diet on the development of experimental atherosclerosis in moderately hyperlipidemic mice. Experiments were carried out on LDL receptor (LDLR) knockout (KO) mice, or apolipoprotein E (apoE) KO mice on a low sodium chloride diet (LSD) as compared with a normal salt diet (NSD). On LSD, the rise of the plasma concentrations of TG and nonesterified fatty acid (NEFA) was, respectively, 19% and 34% in LDLR KO mice, and 21% and 35% in apoE KO mice, and that of plasma cholesterol was limited to the LDLR KO group alone (15%).
