Plasma Foci are pulsed coaxial discharges with numerous radiation applications and interesting scientific phenomena. Although the physics answered much of the processes involved in these discharges, many related fundamental questions still remains doggedly unresolved. One of the obstacles to deeper knowledge is the scarcity of reliable experimental data.

We perform a nonlinear analysis of a fluid-fluid wavy-stratified flow using a simplified two-fluid model (TFM), i.e., the fixed-flux model (FFM), which is an adaptation of the shallow water theory for the two-layer problem.

The most dangerous stage of this condition is proliferative DR (PDR), in which the risk of vision loss is high and treatments are less effective. Fractal features of the retinal vasculature have been previously explored as potential biomarkers of DR, yet the current literature is inconclusive with respect to their correlation with PDR.

In this context, the correct choice of numerical parameters for the appropriate simulation of blood flows in major arteries is a crucial aspect. For this reason, we present three parameter-tuning strategies that allow us to reproduce correctly the pulsatile time-dependent flow of an incompressible fluid under physiological regimes.

Distortions on the magnetic probe signal caused by current redistribution and by a time-dependent total discharge current are considered simultaneously, leading to an integral equation for the current density.

Image segmentation of 3D medical images is a challenging problem with several still not totally solved practical issues, such as noise interference, variable object structures and image artifacts. This paper describes a hybrid 3D image segmentation method which combines region growing and deformable models to obtain accurate and topologically preserving surface structures of anatomical objects of interest. The proposed strategy starts by determining a rough but robust approximation of the objects using a region-growing algorithm.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA new flow methodology exploiting the multi-pumping approach was developed for the spectrophotometric determination of ambroxol hydrochloride in pharmaceutical preparations. The flow manifold was implemented by using, exclusively, multiple solenoid-actuated micro-pumps, which acted simultaneously as sample insertion, solutions propelling and reagents commutation units. Linear calibration plots were obtained over an ambroxol concentration ranging from 10 to 200 mg l(-1) (r.
