Objective: Eating disorders (EDs) are serious psychiatric disorders with an estimated 3.3 million healthy life-years lost worldwide yearly. Understanding the course of illness, diagnostic transitions and remission, and their associated genetic correlates could inform both ED etiology and treatment.

Patterns of Medical Diagnoses Before and After a Diagnosis of Anorexia Nervosa: A Danish Nationwide Cohort Study.

Objective: This study investigates the overall pattern and timing of medical diagnoses up to 10 years before an anorexia nervosa (AN) diagnosis and explores differences before and after AN diagnosis aiming to improve early detection.

Method: In this nationwide population-based cohort study, we included all patients diagnosed with incident AN from 1987 to 2018 (n = 13,345) and a 1:10 age- and sex-matched general population comparison cohort, using Danish health registries. Using conditional logistic regression, we calculated odds ratios (ORs) of medical diagnoses up to 10 years before AN diagnosis.

Transgender and gender-diverse identity in patients with eating disorders: A national cross-sectional study.

Objective: This national study aimed to estimate the prevalence of the transgender and gender-diverse identity and to assess the level of gender congruence, body dissatisfaction and quality of life among patients with eating disorders in Denmark.

Method: Patients with eating disorders were compared to a matched non-clinical comparison group. The survey included the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire and assessment of body dissatisfaction, gender congruence and quality of life.

Mechanisms underlying the development of eating disorders and disordered eating in adolescent females with type 1 diabetes.

Objective: People with Type 1 diabetes (T1D) face an increased risk of eating disorders/disordered eating (ED/DE), with adolescents being particularly vulnerable. Empirical knowledge on the mechanisms underlying development of ED/DE in T1D is crucial for evolving prevention strategies.

Research Design And Methods: Fourteen semi-structured interviews with adolescent females with T1D and ED/DE between 14 and 18 years were conducted and analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis.

Discussions About Binge Eating and Type 2 Diabetes in a Facebook Group: A Qualitative Analysis.

Objective: Binge eating has adverse health effects and may be 10 times more common in people with type 2 diabetes (T2D) than in the general population. Still, binge eating is not consistently addressed in diabetes treatment. People with T2D and binge eating may, therefore, seek guidance on the topic on social media.

Health-Related Quality of Life in Danish Cancer Survivors Referred to a Late Effects Clinic: A Prospective Cohort Study.

Purpose: The Region of Southern Denmark has recently established four late effects clinics to help cancer survivors suffering from complex and severe late effects. This study aimed to capture and analyze the full range of physical, mental, and psychosocial issues using patient-reported outcomes. Moreover, we aimed to describe demographic data and the type and severity of the late effects.

Overall and cause-specific mortality in anorexia nervosa; impact of psychiatric comorbidity and sex in a 40-year follow-up study.

Objective: This study investigates the overall and cause-specific mortality in males and females with anorexia nervosa (AN) from 1977 to 2018, focusing on the impact of psychiatric comorbidity on mortality risk, a less explored aspect despite a high prevalence in patients with AN.

Method: We conducted a nationwide population-based cohort study in Denmark including all patients with AN (n = 14,774) with a median follow-up time of 9.1 years and a 1:10 age- and sex-matched general population comparison cohort.

PRKN-linked familial Parkinson's disease: cellular and molecular mechanisms of disease-linked variants.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common and incurable neurodegenerative disorder that arises from the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra and is mainly characterized by progressive loss of motor function. Monogenic familial PD is associated with highly penetrant variants in specific genes, notably the PRKN gene, where homozygous or compound heterozygous loss-of-function variants predominate. PRKN encodes Parkin, an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase important for protein ubiquitination and mitophagy of damaged mitochondria.

Switch to Lisdexamfetamine in the Treatment of Attention-Deficit Disorder at a Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic for School-Aged Children: A Danish Cohort Study.

This study aimed to examine switch from first-line methylphenidate (MPH) to lisdexamfetamine (LDX) in school-aged children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This is a retrospective observational study based on systematic review of patient records of all children (7-13 years) diagnosed with ADHD and referred to a Danish specialized outpatient clinic. The study included 394 children switching from MPH to LDX as either second-line or third-line treatment (atomoxetine [ATX] as second-line treatment) during the study period from April 1, 2013, to November 5, 2019.

Experimental comparative study of a novel drug-eluting arteriovenous graft in a sheep model.

Background: Arteriovenous (AV) grafts often develop severe complications of stenosis due to neointimal proliferation that occurs either at the venous anastomosis site or at the outflow receiving vein. This study compares primary patency during 12 months of follow up for a new experimental Biomodics interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) drug-eluting graft prototype with state-of-the-art GORE® ACUSEAL (ACUSEAL) in an AV graft model in sheep.

Methods And Results: An end-to-end bypass from the common carotid artery to the jugularis vein was performed bilaterally in 12 sheep.

A mutational atlas for Parkin proteostasis.

Proteostasis can be disturbed by mutations affecting folding and stability of the encoded protein. An example is the ubiquitin ligase Parkin, where gene variants result in autosomal recessive Parkinsonism. To uncover the pathological mechanism and provide comprehensive genotype-phenotype information, variant abundance by massively parallel sequencing (VAMP-seq) is leveraged to quantify the abundance of Parkin variants in cultured human cells.

Up to 25% of people with type 2 diabetes (T2D) may binge eat which is almost 10 times as many as in the general population. Binge eating is associated with depression, anxiety, and social isolation. Moreover, binge eating may increase the risk of obesity and high blood glucose levels, both of which can accelerate the onset of complications to diabetes and death in people with T2D.

Predicting the impact and duration of persistent and mobile organic compounds in groundwater systems using a contaminant mass discharge approach.

This study investigated methods for predicting the duration and impact on groundwater quality from persistent and mobile organic compounds (PMOCs) at a drinking water well field affected by multiple contaminant sources. The fungicide metabolite N,N-dimethylsulfamide (DMS), which frequently occurs above the Danish groundwater quality criterion (0.1 μg/L), was used as an example.

Fracture Risk in Patients with Anorexia Nervosa Over a 40-Year Period.

Researchers have reported increased fracture risk in patients with anorexia nervosa (AN), but more knowledge on the long-term risk and the effects of age, male sex, and time-related changes is still needed. We examined the long-term (up to 40 years) fracture risk among patients with AN compared to a matched comparison cohort from the general population. We utilized data from the Danish Health Care Registers to identify 14,414 patients with AN (13,474 females and 940 males) diagnosed between 1977 and 2018, with a median age of 18.

Measuring small-scale plasma irregularities in the high-latitude E- and F-regions simultaneously.

The ionosphere, Earth's space environment, exhibits widespread turbulent structuring, or plasma irregularities, visualized by the auroral displays seen in Earth's polar regions. Such plasma irregularities have been studied for decades, but plasma turbulence remains an elusive phenomenon. We combine scale-dependent measurements from a ground-based radar with satellite observations to characterize small-scale irregularities simultaneously in the bottomside and topside ionosphere and perform a statistical analysis on an aggregate from both instruments over time.

Involuntary treatment in patients with anorexia nervosa: utilization patterns and associated factors.

Background: A subgroup of patients with anorexia nervosa (AN) undergoing involuntary treatment (IT) seems to account for most of the IT events. Little is known about these patients and their treatment including the temporal distribution of IT events and factors associated with subsequent utilization of IT. Hence, this study explores (1) utilization patterns of IT events, and (2) factors associated with subsequent utilization of IT in patients with AN.

Eating disorder symptomatology among transgender individuals: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objective: The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to synthesize the literature on eating disorders and eating disorder symptomatology among transgender individuals and to summarize the existing literature on gender-affirming treatment and the prevalence of eating disorder symptomatology.

Method: The literature search for this systematic review and meta-analysis was performed in PubMed, Embase.com, and Ovid APA PsycInfo.

m-NLP Inference Models Using Simulation and Regression Techniques.

Current inference techniques for processing multi-needle Langmuir probe (m-NLP) data are often based on adaptations of the Orbital Motion-Limited (OML) theory which relies on several simplifying assumptions. Some of these assumptions, however, are typically not well satisfied in actual experimental conditions, thus leading to uncontrolled uncertainties in inferred plasma parameters. In order to remedy this difficulty, three-dimensional kinetic particle in cell simulations are used to construct a synthetic data set, which is used to compare and assess different m-NLP inference techniques.

Screening is recommended however little is known about patients' perspectives on screening questionnaires.
