The Atlas of Protein-Protein Interactions in Cancer (APPIC)-a webtool to visualize and analyze cancer subtypes.

Cancer is a complex disease with heterogeneous mutational and gene expression patterns. Subgroups of patients who share a phenotype might share a specific genetic architecture including protein-protein interactions (PPIs). We developed the Atlas of Protein-Protein Interactions in Cancer (APPIC), an interactive webtool that provides PPI subnetworks of 10 cancer types and their subtypes shared by cohorts of patients.

Characterizing TIA and stroke symptomatology in a population-based study: implications for and diagnostic value of FAST-based public education.

Background: Urgent medical treatment is crucial after stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA), but hindered by extensive prehospital delays. Public education campaigns based on FAST (Face-Arm-Speech-Time) have improved response after major stroke, but not minor stroke and TIA. We aimed to provide strategies to improve public education on a national level, by characterizing TIA and stroke symptoms in a population-based cohort, and extrapolating findings to the general Dutch population.

Late diagnosis of Marfan syndrome is associated with unplanned aortic surgery and cardiovascular death.

Background: Marfan syndrome (MFS) guidelines recommend optimal pharmacologic therapy (OPT) and replacement of the ascending aorta (RAA) at 5.0 cm in diameter to prevent acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) and death. The effect of early MFS diagnosis and initiation of therapy on outcomes is not known.

Carcass chilling method and electrical stimulation effects on meat quality and color in lamb.

Five treatments: Control (C), Pre-evisceration Electrical Stimulation (CES: 15 Hz, 700 mA, 500 μs pulse width, 45 s pulse duration), vascular Rinse & Chill® (RC), CES + RC (ESRC), and RC with ES after evisceration (RCES:15 Hz, 600 mA, 1000 μs, 45 s), were applied to 21 lambs each. After being excised from the carcass, muscles were vacuum packaged and aged (Longissimus lumborum, LL, 3 and 22 d postmortem; Semimembranosus, SM, 3 d postmortem). Temperature, pH, purge, cooking loss, color, Warner-Bratzler Shear Force (WBSF), and consumer sensory evaluations were determined.

The Use of Bone Substitute Blocks in Minimally Invasive Orthognathic Surgery: Enhancing Jaw Stability and Healing.

This study aims to evaluate the use of bone substitute blocks (BSBs) in minimally invasive orthognathic surgery for the maxilla, mandible, and chin, highlighting their impact on jaw stability and bone healing. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 47 consecutive patients (33 females, 14 males; mean age: 27 y) who underwent bimaxillary advancement surgery. Cobas EGFR mutation Test v2 was FDA-approved as qualitative liquid biopsy for actionable EGFR variants in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). It generates semiquantitative index (SQI) values that correlate with mutant allele levels, but decision thresholds for clinical use in NSCLC surveillance are lacking. We conducted long-term ctDNA monitoring in 20 subjects with EGFR-mutated NSCLC; resulting in a 155 on-treatment samples.

Determinants of Systemic SARS-CoV-2-Specific Antibody Responses to Infection and to Vaccination: A Secondary Analysis of Randomised Controlled Trial Data.

An Experimental Infection Model in Sheep and Goats to Evaluate Salmonella Colonization in Deep Tissue Lymph Nodes and after Carcass Vascular Rinsing with Bacteriophages in Goats.

An animal infection model was evaluated on sheep and goats to confirm which species infected with Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis C StR (SE13) would provide a consistent and high frequency of Salmonella colonization in lymph nodes (LNs) without causing undue animal morbidity. Sheep and goats (n = 5) were intradermally inoculated with Salmonella, postincubated for 7 days, and euthanized. Superficial cervical, medial iliac, subiliac, mammary, and popliteal LNs were excised from each carcass.

To address this, we developed a highly multiplexed mass cytometry platform to measure post-translational modification (PTM) signaling, DNA damage, cell-cycle activity, and apoptosis in >2,500 colorectal cancer (CRC) PDOs and cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in response to clinical therapies at single-cell resolution. To compare patient- and microenvironment-specific drug responses in thousands of single-cell datasets, we developed "Trellis"-a highly scalable, tree-based treatment effect analysis method.

The hydration of an oxy-polycyclic aromatic compound: the case of naphthaldehyde.

The study of the intermolecular interactions of polycyclic aromatic compounds, considered as important pollutants of the Earth's atmosphere since they are emitted by the partial combustion of fuels, is essential to understand the formation and aging of their aerosols. In this study, the hydration of α-naphthaldehyde and β-naphthaldehyde isomers was investigated through a combination of Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations. Monohydrate structures were observed experimentally for both isomers, with two hydrate structures observed for β-naphthaldehyde and only one for α-naphthaldehyde, consistent with computational predictions.

The ortho-isomer 2-furfural (2-FF), which is a primary atmospheric pollutant produced from biomass combustion, is also involved in oxidation processes leading to the formation of secondary organic aerosols. Its contribution to radiative forcing remains poorly understood. Thus, monitoring 2-FF directly in the atmosphere or in atmospheric simulation chambers to characterize its reactivity is merited.

Not Your Everyday Duodenal Ulcer: Massive Gastrointestinal Bleed Secondary to Extramedullary Plasma Cell Myeloma.

The differential for gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding is broad, ranging from peptic ulcers and infection to variceal hemorrhage and neoplasms. The rarer causes of GI bleeds are frequently overlooked and as such can ultimately be more dangerous. Extramedullary multiple myeloma, an atypical plasma cell dyscrasia arising outside of the bone marrow, involves the GI tract in <5% of cases and often presents with nonspecific symptoms.

Background: The clock drawing test (CDT) and the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) are frequently used screening instruments for cognitive impairment, however, the precise contribution of the CDT to the MMSE is largely unknown.

Methods: We studied patients with subjective cognitive impairment (SCI, n = 481), mild cognitive impairment (MCI, n = 628) and Alzheimer's disease (AD, n = 1099). Discrimination between patients was examined with multiple logistic regression, adjusted for age, sex, and education.

BCG Vaccination of Health Care Workers Does Not Reduce SARS-CoV-2 Infections nor Infection Severity or Duration: a Randomized Placebo-Controlled Trial.

Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccination has been hypothesized to reduce severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, severity, and/or duration via trained immunity induction. Health care workers (HCWs) in nine Dutch hospitals were randomized to BCG or placebo vaccination (1:1) in March and April 2020 and followed for 1 year. Studies describe the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) as a major hub for emotion processing and the pathophysiology of affective disorders. Subregions of the OFC show diverse functional connectivity (FC) topographies, but the effect of chronic PA on subregional OFC FC still lacks scientific understanding.

Esthetic Considerations In Minimally Invasive Orthognathic Surgery.
