Electromagnetic emissions from earthquakes are known as precursors and are of considerable importance for the purpose of early alarms. The propagation of low-frequency waves is favored, and the range between tens of mHz to tens of Hz has been heavily investigated in the last thirty years. This work describes the self-financed Opera 2015 project that initially consisted of six monitoring stations over Italy, equipped with electric and magnetic field sensors, among others.

An enlarging internal iliac artery aneurysm secondary to a type II endoleak after endovascular aortic repair is an uncommon entity. It carries a significant rupture risk and mortality if not addressed. The present patient had had a 6.

Methods: A retrospective cohort study that compared 91 cirrhotic patients to a control group of non-cirrhotic patients operated by liver transplant surgeons was conducted between 2009 and 2015.
Nitrosocarbonyl intermediates, generated at room temperature by oxidation of nitrile oxides, undergo clean ene reactions with trisubstituted cycloalkenes. Nitrosocarbonyl benzene follows a Markovnikov orientation and abstracts preferentially the twix hydrogens over the lone ones. With the more sterically demanding nitrosocarbonyl mesitylene in the presence of 5- and 6-membered ring olefins, the Markovnikov directing effect is relieved, and twix and lone abstractions are observed.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFInguinal herniorrhaphy is commonly performed on an outpatient basis under nerve blocks or local or general anesthesia (GA). Our hypothesis is that use of paravertebral blocks (PVB) as the sole anesthetic technique will result in shorter time to achieve home readiness and improved same-day recovery over a 'fast-track' GA. Fifty patients were randomly assigned to receive either PVB or GA under standardized protocols (PVB = 0.

Controversy exists as to which method is more suitable in outpatients undergoing hand and wrist surgery. The authors hypothesized that infraclavicular brachial plexus block (INB) performed with a short-acting local anesthetic would result in shorter time to discharge home as compared with "fast-track" GA.

The objectives of this study were to determine whether the placement of the cutaneous electrode affects nerve stimulation and to determine the duration and intensity of an electrical stimulus that allows nerve stimulation with minimal discomfort.
Methods: Ten healthy volunteers underwent an interscalene and a femoral nerve block.
