Ultra-fast vitrification and rapid elution of human oocytes: part I. germinal vesicle model validation.

Research Question: Can GV-oocytes serve as an effective model to test the efficacy of ultra-fast vitrification (UFV)/ rapid elution (RE) treatments to support reliable, high survival rates and sustained functionality?

Design: Prospective pilot cohort studies were performed to investigate the feasibility of non-equilibration, UFV to sustain cellular integrity and development in contrast to control vitrification (CV: 10-15min ES/ 1min VS). In Phase 1, we applied a 2 × 2 factorial design (n=25-30 eggs/group) to evaluate post-warming dilution treatments: conventional multi-step (CD) versus rapid elution (RE; one-step), including an apriori fresh egg control group. Phase 1/2 focused on survival and maturation assessments, including meiotic spindle formation (Phase 2).

Global assessment of pollicization outcomes: an analysis in 27 patients.

Outcomes measurements after pollicization remains difficult due to the lack of a standardized assessment protocol. This study reports our experience of a global assessment of pollicized thumbs that includes a specific questionnaire for subjective evaluation, a detailed clinical assessment focused on functional outcomes incorporating function and usage of the pollicized thumb. Twenty-seven patients completed the questionnaire, and nine hands were clinically evaluated by a multidisciplinary team composed of hand surgeons and occupational therapists.

Pectoralis minor transfer for elbow flexion restoration in late obstetric brachial plexus palsy.

Purpose: Obstetric brachial plexus palsy (OBPP) may result in a severe impairment of upper limb function, especially when major motor functions do not recover with or without early microsurgical reconstruction. Various methods to restore elbow flexion have been described. The aim of this study was to report the results after pectoralis minor transfer for elbow flexion restoration in late OBPP.

Total ipsilateral C7 root neurotization to the upper trunk for isolated C5-C6 avulsion in obstetrical brachial plexus palsy: a preliminary technical report.

Background: C5-C6 root avulsion in obstetrical brachial plexus palsy (OBPP) is a rare injury with poor prognosis usually associated with breech delivery. The treatment is challenging and requires high microsurgical skills. The triple nerve transfer (spinal accessory nerve, ulnar fascicles, and triceps long or lateral head branch) represents the gold standard treatment.

Complete obstetric brachial plexus palsy: surgical improvement to recover a functional hand.

Objective: Complete obstetrical brachial plexus palsy remains a difficult situation for the child and his/her family. The quality of spontaneous reinnervation is rarely good and always leads to a non-sensitive and non-functional hand, even if abduction of the shoulder and elbow flexion do spontaneously recover. The aim of this study was to assess the results from nerve reconstruction in cases of complete palsy and to demonstrate the effect of a change in surgical technique on the outcome of hand function.
