Effect of protease supplementation on amino acid digestibility of soybean meal fed to growing-finishing pigs in two different ages.

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of protease inclusion level in two different ages on the apparent (AID) and standardized (SID) ileal digestibility of crude protein (CP) and amino acids (AAs) in soybean meal (SBM) fed to growing-finishing pigs. Ten cannulated pigs (21 ± 2 kg) were assigned to experimental diets in a duplicate 5 × 5 Latin square design. In phase I (23 to 30 kg-pigs, 90 ± 17 d of age), ileal digesta was collected in five periods of 7 d (5 d adaptation and 2 d ileal digesta collection).

The Stability and Properties of Polystyrene/Kaolinite Nanocomposites during Synthesis via Emulsion Polymerization.

The aim of this work was to study the stability and morphological properties of polystyrene latex containing kaolinite as a filler during the process of synthesis of nanocomposites viaemulsion polymerization. Nanocomposites with 1, 3, and 5 wt% of kaolinite were prepared. Latexes with 1 to 3 wt% of kaolinite were stable during the polymerization reaction.

The evaluation of antichagasic and -SARS-CoV-2 potential of inclusion complexes of β- and methyl-β-cyclodextrin with naphthoquinone.

The compound 3,10-dihydro-1-cyclopenta[]naphtho[2,3-]furan-5,10-dione (IVS320) is a naphthoquinone with antifungal and antichagasic potential, which however has low aqueous solubility. To increase bioavailability, inclusion complexes with β-cyclodextrin (βCD) and methyl-β-cyclodextrin (MβCD) were prepared by physical mixture (PM), kneading (KN) and rotary evaporation (RE), and their -SARS-CoV-2 and antichagasic potential was assessed. The formation of inclusion complexes led to a change in the physicochemical characteristics compared to IVS320 alone as well as a decrease in crystallinity degree that reached 74.

Free-range system and supplementation of 25-hydroxicholecalciferol increases the performance and serum vitamin levels in mixed-parity sows.

Improvements in sow productivity have raised questions regarding dietary vitamin D recommendations. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of the housing system with access to sunlight exposure and supplementation of 25-hydroxicholecalciferol on performance and serum levels of 25(OH)D in sows during gestation and lactation. Sows were distributed in an experimental design with two housing systems: gestation crates or gestation free-range system with external area for sunlight exposure; and two diets: 0 or 50 μg of 25-hydroxicholecalciferol kg .

Benzoic acid in nursery diets increases the performance from weaning to finishing by reducing diarrhoea and improving the intestinal morphology of piglets inoculated with Escherichia coli K88.

A total of 224 weaned pigs (DanBred sows x PIC 337 sires) with an average body weight (BW) of 6.37 ± 0.34 kg (21 days of age) were used to evaluate how different levels of benzoic acid fed to weaning pigs orally inoculated with Escherichia coli (K88 ) affected the nursing and grow-finishing performance, the physicochemical properties of the intestine, the volatile fatty acid concentration in the caecum and the incidence of diarrhoea.

Anticipatory postural adjustments in the shoulder girdle in the reach movement performed in standing by post-stroke subjects.

After a stroke in middle cerebral artery territory, there is a high probability of dysfunction of the ventromedial pathways, mainly related with postural control mechanisms such as the anticipatory postural adjustments (APAs). According to neuroanatomical knowledge, these pathways have a predominant ipsilesional disposition, which justifies a bilateral postural control dysfunction, often neglected in rehabilitation. In order to assess this bilateral postural control dysfunction, electromyography activity was assessed in eight post-stroke and 10 healthy individuals in the anterior deltoids, the superior and lower trapezius, and the latissimus dorsi as they reached for a bottle with both upper limbs separately at a self-selected velocity and fast velocity while standing associated with trunk kinematics analysis.

The role of the ipsilesional side in the rehabilitation of post-stroke subjects.

Most stroke lesions occur in the middle cerebral artery territory, presenting a high probability of damage of pathways with predominant ipsilesional disposition, mainly related to postural control. Despite the high probability of bilateral postural control dysfunction based on neuroanatomical fundaments, both research and clinical rehabilitation involving stroke subjects have been focused on contralesional side (also named affected side) impairments, while ipsilesional side (also named non-affected side) impairments have been attributed to an adaptive strategy. This paper aims to present a critical understanding about the state-of-the-art that sustains the hypothesis that stroke subjects with middle cerebral artery territory lesion at the subcortical level show an atypical behaviour in the ipsilateral side associated with the lesion itself and the possible implications.

New therapies for this disease are urgently needed, as the only two drugs available (nifurtimox and benznidazol) have high toxicity and variable efficacy in the disease's chronic phase. Recently, a new chemical entity (NCE) named Pyranaphthoquinone (IVS320) was synthesized from lawsone.

Co-activation of upper limb muscles during reaching in post-stroke subjects: an analysis of the contralesional and ipsilesional limbs.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the change in antagonist co-activation ratio of upper-limb muscle pairs, during the reaching movement, of both ipsilesional and contralesional limbs of post-stroke subjects. Nine healthy and nine post-stroke subjects were instructed to reach and grasp a target, placed in the sagittal and scapular planes of movement. Surface EMG was recorded from postural control and movement related muscles.

Anticipatory postural adjustments during sitting reach movement in post-stroke subjects.

The study assessed the effect of velocity of arm movement on anticipatory postural adjustments (APAs) generation in the contralateral and ipsilateral muscles of individuals with stroke in seating. Ten healthy and eight post-stroke subjects were studied in sitting. The task consisted in reaching an object placed at scapular plane and mid-sternum height at self-selected and fast velocities.

Objective: To evaluate insulin sensitivity and the impact of Intralipid(®) and heparin (ILH) infusion on hemodynamic, metabolic, and autonomic response in patients with the indeterminate form of Chagas' disease.

Pentraxin 3 (PTX3) is a humoral component of the innate immune system which has been studied as a marker of inflammatory, infections or cardiovascular pathologies. To investigate the association between serum levels of PTX3 and the hospital mortality of patients with severe TBI.

Clinical and epidemiological study of 27 poisonings caused by ingesting puffer fish (Tetrodontidae) in the states of Santa Catarina and Bahia, Brazil.

Puffer fish can be poisonous due to the presence of the potent neurotoxins such as Tetrodotoxin (TTX) and Saxitoxin (STX) found in its tissues. The authors report 27 human poisonings from ingestion of puffer fish in patients treated at Toxicology Centers in the states of Santa Catarina and Bahia, Brazil, between 1984 and January 2009. Poisonings were classified as moderate (52%) and severe (33%), two deaths were observed.

Cross-validation of the Children's and Infants' Postoperative Pain Scale in Brazilian Children.

Objective: To validate CHIPPS (Children's and Infants' Postoperative Pain Scale) in Brazilian children.

Background: Cross-validation is needed in order to apply this scale in a different language and culture.
