Identifying and costing common gaps in Central and West Africa pharmaceutical regulation.

Background: Regulatory systems strengthening is crucial for catalyzing access to safe and effective medical products and health technologies (MPHT) for all. Identifying and addressing common regulatory gaps through regional approaches could be instrumental for the newly incepted African Medicine Agency.

Aims: This original study sheds light on common gaps among 10 national regulatory authorities (NRAs) and ways to address them regionally.

Regulatory preparedness for public health emergencies is critical. However, responses to past emergencies, such as the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic and medical product shortages, have revealed sizable gaps in countries' regulatory capacity and preparedness. A systematic analysis of the regulatory preparedness of countries around the world has not yet been performed.

Changing epidemiology of KPC-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae in Argentina: Emergence of hypermucoviscous ST25 and high-risk clone ST307.

Objectives: To assess the epidemiological features of 76 Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC)-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (KPC-Kp) isolates recovered from three hospitals in Buenos Aires, Argentina, during 2015-2017.

Methods: Antimicrobial susceptibilities were determined according to CLSI Clinical and Laboratoy Standards guidelines. Molecular typing of KPC-Kp was performed by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE)-Xbal and multilocus sequence typing.

WHO initiative to increase global and equitable access to influenza vaccine in the event of a pandemic: supporting developing country production capacity through technology transfer.

Should a highly pathogenic avian influenza virus, such as the H5N1 virus type currently circulating in birds, become transmissible among humans, an effective vaccine, rapidly available in vast quantities, would be the best tool to prevent high case-fatalities and the breakdown of health and social services. The number of vaccine doses that could be produced on demand has risen sharply over the last few years; however, it is still alarmingly short of the 13 billion doses that would be needed if two doses were required to protect fully the world's population. Most developing countries would be last in the queue to benefit from a pandemic vaccine.

Candida albicans is the species most frequently isolated from clinical samples. However, other emerging yeast pathogens are increasingly responsible for mycotic infections, and some of them are resistant to some antifungal drugs.
