A rural teledentistry care experience: a geriatric approach to assessing oral health status and treatment needs in older adults from a Mapuche community in Chile.

Background: Limited attention has been given to oral health challenges faced by older Indigenous populations, especially in rural settings, where disparities exist. This study aims to assess oral health in a rural Mapuche community in southern Chile, utilizing geriatric technology support, and exploring the connection between geriatric health and oral well-being to fill a gap in this context.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 76 independent older adults from a rural Mapuche community who required dental care.

Translation and validation into Spanish of the oral health self-efficacy scale in Chilean older adults.

Background: Population ageing poses a challenge to improving the well-being of older adults, particularly in terms of oral health. Promoting self-efficacy in oral health behaviours is crucial for maintaining this population's health and quality of life. The Oral Health Self-Efficacy Scale (OHSES) has been widely used to assess dental self-efficacy and is considered comprehensive and reliable.

Social construction of obstetric violence of Tenek and Nahuatl women in Mexico.

Objective: To explore the social construction of obstetric violence developed by Tenek and Nahuatl women in Mexico.

Method: Qualitative, socio-critical study conducted through focal groups in which were deepened the childbirth experiences lived in the period 2015-2016.

Possible ATP trafficking by ATP-shuttles in the olfactory cilia and glucose transfer across the olfactory mucosa.

Odor transduction in the cilia of olfactory sensory neurons involves several ATP-requiring enzymes. ATP is generated by glycolysis in the ciliary lumen, using glucose incorporated from surrounding mucus, and by oxidative phosphorylation in the dendrite. During prolonged stimulation, the cilia maintain ATP levels along their length, by unknown means.

Antigenic and molecular characterization of Vibrio ordalii strains isolated from Atlantic salmon Salmo salar in Chile.

Biochemical, serological and molecular properties of a group of 14 Vibrio ordalii strains isolated from cultured Atlantic salmon Salmo salar in Chile in recent years were studied. The characteristics of isolates were compared with the type strain V. ordalii ATCC 33509T.

Vibrio parahaemolyticus diarrhea, Chile, 1998 and 2004.

Analysis of clinical isolates of Vibrio parahaemolyticus from outbreaks in Chile in the cities of Puerto Montt in 2004 and Antofagasta in 1998 indicated that 23 of 24 isolates from Puerto Montt and 19 of 20 from Antofagasta belonged to the pandemic clonal complex that emerged in Southeast Asia in 1996.

Loss of heterozygosity on chromosome arms 3p and 6q in microdissected adenocarcinomas of the uterine cervix and adenocarcinoma in situ.

Background: Despite the increasing frequency of adenocarcinomas of the uterine cervix, little is known regarding inactivation of tumor suppressor genes (TSGs) in this tumor type. The authors analyzed loss of heterozygosity (LOH) in 36 carcinomas of the cervix with glandular differentiation, and 5 adenocarcinoma in situ in 40 patients.
