Background: Unresectable carcinomas of the oropharynx and hypopharynx still have a poor long-term prognosis. Following a previous phase II study, this phase III multicenter trial was conducted between November 1997 and March 2002.
Methods: Nontreated, strictly unresectable cases were eligible.

Purpose: Mastectomy is the treatment of reference for local relapse after breast cancer (BC). The aim of this study was to document the feasibility and the results of associating lumpectomy with partial breast irradiation by interstitial brachytherapy (IB) as local treatment for an isolated ipsilateral BC local recurrence (LR).
Methods And Materials: Between 1975 and 1996 at Marseille and Nice Cancer Institutes, 4026 patients received lumpectomy and radiotherapy (RT) (50-80 Gy) for a localized breast cancer of which 473 presented a LR.
Objective: This study reports the preliminary national results of permanent Iodine 125 implant brachytherapy for the treatment of localized prostate cancer with a follow-up of 4 years.
Material And Methods: The authors analyse a series of 260 patients treated consecutively according to the same technique (single-centre, with estimated dosimetry and the use of fixed implants) in terms of morbidity, recorded prospectively, and in terms of cancer control. Objectives: To describe the outcome of patients with muscle-invasive bladder carcinoma treated with multimodality therapy in our institution from 1993 to 2002.
Methods: The charts of 60 patients with Stage T2-T4N0-N1M0 treated with transurethral resection of bladder tumor followed by a chemoradiotherapy combination were retrospectively reviewed. Of the 60 patients, 22 had received neoadjuvant chemotherapy (methotrexate, cisplatin, and vinblastine or methotrexate, adriamycin, cisplatin, and vinblastine) followed by concomitant chemoradiotherapy (weekly cisplatin/carboplatin or a cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil combination), and 38 had received concomitant chemoradiotherapy alone.
Background: Optimal treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-associated non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) has yet to be defined, because chemotherapy could exacerbate immunodeficiency, with subsequent adverse effects for patients.
Methods: The authors investigated the feasibility of an intensive chemotherapy regimen for HIV-associated NHL. Thirty-eight patients were treated with a first course of cyclophosphamide (Cy), vincristine, and prednisone; followed by 3 courses of high-dose Cy (2000 mg/m2), doxorubicin (Doxo; 50 mg/m2), vincristine, and prednisone (modified high-dose CHOP); 1 course of high-dose methotrexate (MTX; 8000 mg/m2); and 1 course of high-dose cytarabine (8000 mg/m2).

Purpose: To assess the toxicity and efficacy of preoperative chemoradiation in pancreatic cancer.
Methods And Materials: Between November 1996 and December 2001, 32 patients with biopsy-proven pancreatic adenocarcinoma (28 head; 4 body) were treated by chemoradiation consisting of either split-course therapy (two courses of 15 Gy separated by a 2-week break, n = 10) or standard-fractionation therapy (45 Gy during 5 weeks, n = 22). Concurrent chemotherapy included continuous infusion of 5-fluorouracil and a cisplatin bolus.
Purpose: To analyse predictive factors of acute urinary morbidity after transperineal permanent prostate brachytherapy.
Methods And Materials: Sixty patients treated in a phase 2 study with iodine-125 brachytherapy (9/1998 to 2/2000) for localised prostate adenocarcinoma were analysed after at least 1-year follow-up. Prescribed dose was 144 Gy and all patients had a pre-planning and a post-implant dosimetry.
Purpose: Delineation of the gross tumor volume (GTV) and organs at risk constitutes one of the most important phases of conformal radiotherapy (CRT) procedures. In the absence of a clear redefinition of the GTV, for a given pathology, complemented by detailed contouring procedures, the GTV are likely to be estimated rather arbitrarily with the risk of tumor underdosage or detriment to the surrounding healthy tissues. The objective of this study was to compare the delineation of the GTV of intrathoracic tumors by radiologists and radiation oncologists with experience in the field in various centers.
