Article Synopsis
  • Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) affect about 1% of people and have a strong genetic component, with specific copy number variations like the 2q13 microdeletion linked to a higher risk of ASD and other developmental issues.
  • A case is presented of a 44-month-old girl with the 2q13 microdeletion who exhibits autism spectrum disorders and global developmental delay but lacks major organ anomalies.
  • This report highlights unique aspects of her autistic phenotype, suggesting atypical clinical features could be indicators of the genetic anomaly, and discusses how this variation presents differently in individuals.
