This study evaluated the association between dental infection and maxillary sinus pathology, and the influence of age, sex, type of tooth, root proximity to the sinus floor, the condition of the primary maxillary ostium, and the presence of an accessory maxillary ostium in this process. Computed Tomography scans were selected, and upper posterior teeth were evaluated for the presence of apical periodontitis (AP), bone loss with furcation involvement, and endoperiodontal lesion (EPL), subsequently, sinuses were evaluated for mucosal thickening (MT) and opacification of the maxillary sinus (OMS). Logistic regression models were constructed, and Chi-squared and Fisher's tests were applied.

Complete genome sequences of four novel mycobacteriophages, Diminimus, Dulcita, Glaske16, and Koreni, isolated from soil are presented. All these bacteriophages belong to subcluster M1, except Koreni that belongs to subcluster A4. Moreover, all have siphovirus morphologies, with genome sizes ranging from 51,055 to 81,156 bp.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examines a new mucosal vaccine strategy against SARS-CoV-2 variants, showing that intranasal and oral delivery of a non-replicating adenovirus-vectored vaccine can induce stronger immune responses compared to standard vaccinations.
  • - Hamsters vaccinated with the Wuhan variant vaccine before being exposed to the delta or omicron variants showed protection from weight loss and lung damage, reducing viral shedding significantly.
  • - The research suggests that mucosal vaccines might provide broader and more effective immunity against various SARS-CoV-2 variants, indicating they could be a promising approach to curtailing viral transmission and the emergence of new variants.

Transmission-blocking strategies that slow the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and protect against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are needed. We have developed an orally delivered adenovirus type 5-vectored SARS-CoV-2 vaccine candidate that expresses the spike protein. Here, we demonstrated that hamsters vaccinated by the oral or intranasal route had robust and cross-reactive antibody responses.

Background: Vaccines that are shelf stable and easy to administer are crucial to improve vaccine access and reduce severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) transmission around the world.

Methods: In this study, we demonstrate that an oral, adenovirus-based vaccine candidate protects against SARS-CoV-2 in a Syrian hamster challenge model.

Results: Hamsters administered 2 doses of VXA-CoV2-1 showed a reduction in weight loss and lung pathology and had completely eliminated infectious virus 5 days postchallenge.

Objectives: The HIV epidemic in India is concentrated in key populations such as people who inject drugs (PWID). New HIV infections are high among young PWID (≤30 years of age), who are hard to engage in services. We assessed perspectives of young PWID to guide development of youth-specific services.

INTRODUCTION: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the leading causes of cancer death for both men and women in the United States. Several factors can increase one’s risk of CRC, including a personal or family history of CRC, a diagnosis or family history of a hereditary colon cancer syndrome, or a diagnosis of chronic inflammatory bowel disease. The purpose of this project was to create a colorectal cancer registry (Co-Care) for individuals with a personal or family history of CRC, and those with disorders of the colon or rectum that are associated with an increased risk for developing CRC.

Article Synopsis
  • * They involved the community in New York and worked with new partners to set up programs, where they collected data at different times to see how people were doing with screening.
  • * In total, they reached a lot of attendees, but fewer people decided to join the study than they expected, even though they successfully included the community in the process.
