In this study, extraction methods using natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) were proposed for the determination of arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), and lead (Pb) in plant and food matrices. NADES are green and sustainable solvents with advantageous chemical properties for such applications. The NADES were prepared with different components, characterized, and applied in ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) and microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) methods.

The speciation of arsenic in fish has been widely investigated, but bioaccumulation and biotransformation of inorganic As in different tissues of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) are not fully understood. The present study aimed to investigate the bioaccumulation of As in Nile tilapia, as well as to evaluate the distribution of the main arsenic species (As(III), As(V), MMA, DMA, and AsB) in liver, stomach, gill, and muscle, after controlled exposures to As(III) and As(V) at concentrations of 5.0 and 10.

Objective: Assess the impact of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) on xerostomia, salivary flow rate (SFR) and composition in patients undergoing radiotherapy (RT) for head and neck cancer (HNC).
Study Design: Thirty patients undergoing RT (65 Gy) for HNC were enrolled. Saliva and xerostomia evaluations collected pre- and post-PBMT-RT.

This study presents a novel and efficient method for the extraction of Al, Ca, Cr, Cu, K, Mg, Mn, and Zn in vegetable oil samples using a Natural Deep Eutectic Solvent (NADES) as an extractor combined with microwave radiation (MW) in an emulsion system. The NADES prepared with choline chloride:oxalic acid:water (1:1:4 molar ratio) provided a high extraction rate using 5.0 mL of the sample, 1.

The behaviors of internal standards, according to different flow rates of the cell collision gas (He), were studied for the determination of Cd, Pb, Pd, Pt, Rh, and Sn in samples of fish and mollusks by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The elements Bi, Ge, In, Sc, and Y were selected as internal standards, considering their masses and first ionization energies. Addition and recovery experiments were carried out at three concentration levels to evaluate the accuracy of the method applied for the analysis of two samples with different matrices.

The study of conditions associated with SCZ can be facilitated by using potential markers and patterns that provide information to support the diagnosis and oral health.
Methods: The salivary composition of patients diagnosed with SCZ (n = 50) was evaluated and compared to the control (n = 50).
Solvents with both low density and viscosity have the advantage of higher extraction efficiency due to lower diffusivity and consequently higher mass transfer. In this study, a mixture design was performed for the synthesis of three different natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) using citric acid, malic acid, and xylitol. The optimized proportion for each of the three solvents synthesized was selected based on density and viscosity values.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFNatural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) based on xylitol, citric acid, and malic acid were synthesized and were then characterized using infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry (TG), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), also density and viscosity were measurements. The deep eutectic solvents were used as solvent in ultrasound-assisted extraction (DES-UAE) of plant samples prior to elemental analysis. Inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP OES) were employed for the determination of As, Ca, Cd, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, P, and Zn in the extracts.

They have high reactivity and bactericidal properties, making them important in antifouling paints, which are thus directly introduced into aquatic ecosystems. However, studies are scarce on the behavior of Cu nanoparticles (Cu-NPs) in natural aquatic systems and their interactions with primary producers such as microalgae.

The accuracy of the developed analytical method was evaluated using certified reference materials of water and mineral fertilizer, and recoveries ranged from 95 to 106%. Addition and recovery experiments were carried out, and the recoveries varied from 85 to 117% for all samples evaluated.

Gases are generated during digestion and there is an increment of the internal vessel pressure. Consequently, vessels venting may occur depending on the design of the vessel and the maximum pressure it can stand for.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFArsenic is an element widely present in nature. Additionally, it may be found as different species in several matrices and therefore it is one of the target elements in chemical speciation. Although the number of studies in terrestrial plants is low, compared to matrices such as fish or urine, this number is raising due to the fact that this type of matrix are closely related to the human food chain.
