Assessing the impact of intrafraction motion correction on PTV margins and target and OAR dosimetry for single-fraction free-breathing lung stereotactic body radiation therapy.

The objective of this research is to investigate intrafraction motion correction on planning target volume (PTV) margin requirements and target and organ-at-risk (OAR) dosimetry in single-fraction lung stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). Sixteen patients (15 with upper lobe lesions, 1 with a middle lobe lesion) were treated with single-fraction lung SBRT. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images were acquired before the treatment, between the arcs, and after the delivery of the treatment fraction.

Influence of intra- and interfraction motion on planning target volume margin in liver stereotactic body radiation therapy using breath hold.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate intra- and interfraction motion during liver stereotactic body radiation therapy for the purpose of planning target volume (PTV) margin estimation, comparing deep inspiration breath hold (DIBH) and deep expiration breath hold (DEBH).

Methods And Materials: Pre- and posttreatment kV cone beam computed tomography (CT) images were acquired for patients with liver cancer who were treated using stereotactic body radiation therapy with DIBH or DEBH. A total of 188 images were analyzed from 18 patients.

A Canadian Survey of the Management of Radiation-Induced Skin Reactions.

Introduction: Radiation therapy skin reactions are one of the most common side effects and can cause patient distress. In some cases, a severe radiation-induced skin reaction may limit delivered dose and potentially compromise treatment outcomes. There are some established best practices, but approaches and patient advice appear to have changed little over the years and are often based on tradition, not evidence.
