Protein ubiquitination is essential to govern cells' ability to cope with harmful environments by regulating many aspects of protein dynamics from synthesis to degradation. As important as the ubiquitination process, the reversal of ubiquitin chains mediated by deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs) is critical for proper recovery from stress and re-establishment of proteostasis. Although it is known that ribosomes are decorated with K63-linked polyubiquitin chains that control protein synthesis under stress, the mechanisms by which these ubiquitin chains are reversed and regulate proteostasis during stress recovery remain elusive.

Retinoblastoma in Ceara: An epidemiological study in a Brazilian pediatric oncology referral center.

Purpose: Although Brazil has a high prevalence of retinoblastoma, there is a lack of epidemiological data on the disease. Thus, in this study, we aimed to evaluate the epidemiological profile of patients diagnosed with retinoblastoma in the ophthalmology department of a pediatric tertiary referral hospital in Ceara, Brazil.

Methods: A descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted by retrospectively analyzing the clinical and socioeconomic data from the medical records of pediatric patients followed-up at the hospital between 2007 and 2021.

Myotomy in sigmoid megaesophagus: is it applicable? A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis: from early diagnosis to successful kidney transplantation.

Encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis is an uncommon but serious complication of peritoneal dialysis. In most cases, the symptoms appear after peritoneal dialysis withdrawal, which hampers its diagnosis. We present the case of a 44-years-old Caucasian male who had been on peritoneal dialysis for 6 years and 3 months and was switched to hemodialysis due to ultrafiltration failure.

This cross-sectional study investigated the association between alcohol use by adolescents and the availability of alcohol outlets in the neighborhood of public schools. We collected primary data including variables at individual and school neighborhood level. Multilevel logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratio (OR) with a 95% confidence interval (95%CI) for alcohol use with the exposure variables.

Eco-friendly synthesis of an alkyl chitosan derivative.

Chitosan (CH) was N-alkylated via Schiff base formation and further reduced via sodium borohydride. The reaction was carried out at room temperature, in a homogeneous aqueous medium, using as a source of alkyl group an essential oil (Eucalyptus staigeriana) containing an unsaturated aldehyde (3,7-dimethylocta-2,6-dienal). Derivatives were characterized by Infrared Spectroscopy, proton and carbon Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, XRD, particle size distribution and zeta potential.
