Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how hospital lighting impacts the development of newborns and the comfort of parents and caregivers, aiming to provide recommendations for optimal lighting in neonatal units.
  • A systematic review of 89 studies led to the findings that light levels should not exceed 1000 lux, and changes in lighting should be gradual, with special protection for infants under 32 weeks of age.
  • The recommendations also suggest that while infants should avoid continuous high light exposure, caregivers should benefit from higher light levels and access to natural light when possible.
