The World Health Organization stipulate children and adolescents should accumulate 60 min of physical activity (PA) daily; globally only 25% achieve this. Active travel to school (ATS) is a method of integrating PA into daily life with a documented health benefit accruing. During the COVID-19 lockdown, social isolation from school closures and home visitation restrictions compounded known risk factors for child maltreatment. The aim of our study was to determine the incidence and types of child protection concern (CPC) among inpatients during the COVID-19 lockdown compared to the matched timeframe in 2019. We retrospectively reviewed the CPC assessments performed at Children's Health Ireland at Crumlin and Tallaght from March 13 to August 31, 2020, and the same period in 2019.

Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is one of the most common causes of morbidity and mortality in new onset type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Children have a higher rate of neurological complications from DKA when compared to adults. The differential for sudden focal neurological deterioration in the setting of DKA is cerebral oedema followed by ischaemic and haemorrhagic stroke.
