View Article and Find Full Text PDFA nonneutropenic patient with treated low-grade non-Hodgkin's (Follicular) lymphoma and secondary hypogammaglobulinemia recovered from pneumococcal pneumonia and septicemia (serotype 7F; ST191) subsequent to influenza A H1N1 (2009). Both infections were potentially vaccine preventable. The patient then developed pneumococcal meningitis due to a serotype 35F pneumococcus with a unique Multilocus Sequence Type (ST7004) which was not vaccine preventable.

Background: Imported malaria cases continue to occur and are often underreported. This study assessed reporting of malaria cases and their characteristics in Scotland.
Methods: Cases were identified at the study sites of Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness.
A 44-year-old woman who had recently been on immunosuppressive therapy presented with malaise, cough, fever, weight loss, lymphadenopathy, severe hypercalcaemia and a paratracheal mass on imaging. The initial impression was of disseminated malignancy, and lymphoma was suspected. A mediastinal biopsy showed a mycobacterial spindle cell pseudotumour containing acid and alcohol fast bacilli (AAFB).
