Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare the risk of lower extremity amputation (LEA) in individuals with diabetes, focusing on those with and without comorbid depression.
  • A systematic review of literature was conducted, analyzing data from seven studies involving 767,997 patients, which showed that individuals with diabetes and depression had a higher hazard of LEA (HR 1.76) than those without depression.
  • The findings suggest a significant link between depression and increased LEA risk in diabetes patients, emphasizing the need for more research to guide clinical interventions.
